Dino Babers or Doc Holliday?
Black Sunday fell in Florida when Miami fired coach Al Golden and UCF coach George O'Leary abruptly.
Some potential UM candidates are obvious. Former Bucs coach (and ’Canes assistant) Greg Schiano has made it clear that he'd like to get back into coaching.
Alabama's assistant head coach, Mario Cristobal, played at UM and brought some success to Florida International as its head coach.
Former UM coach Butch Davis has also said he would be interested in returning to the ‘Canes. At least one of the aerial banners in south Florida asked for him to return, so he has at least some fan support.
Arizona's Rich Rodriguez and Memphis' Justin Fuente are also names you might hear in the coming weeks.
Miami still has some built-in advantages. The recruiting talent in south Florida remains strong, and its on-campus facilities — everything except for the stadium — are great. The downside, of course, is money. Golden's salary of slightly more than $2.5 million was 42nd nationally, according to USA Today's database. That's in the same neighborhood as Minnesota, Boston College and Northwestern and half of what rival Florida State pays Jimbo Fisher.
UCF is tricky, because offensive coordinator Brent Key was the heir apparent whenever O'Leary left. According to the Orlando Sentinel, he even had a clause in his contract that pays him $700,000 if he wasn't the school's next head coach.
Could the Knights land a hot coach from a smaller conference (like Bowling Green's Dino Babers or Marshall's Doc Holliday)? Or will they focus on a strong assistant coach elsewhere?
One name that might pop up: former USF coach (and current Colorado defensive coordinator) Jim Leavitt. Now that would add a spark to the I-4 rivalry.

Davis has fan and the U NFL alum support. Some major names want Davis
and are very vocal about it.

I dunno. I would be weary of hiring anyone with cartoon-character sounding names.
