Especially when we are breaking in yet another new QB... and go 0-4 OOC. Yep. Seen this cycle before. You have good teams and decide you want a tougher schedule, have to schedule it years down the road and go over board on the SOS, then you go 1-3 or 2-2 OOC and it sucks the life out of your program. I am fine with 2 winnable p5 games, but need to have 2 easily winnable g5s there as well.
Other than ECU, that schedule is brutal.

And we will be all the better for it.. I'm sorry but, the only way to get better and to improve the worth of who we are as a football team, is to go toe to toe with other good football teams.. I'd rather earn 8 hard fought wins than go 12-1 with a cupcake schedule that nobody respects.. Plus who knows what any of these team will look like by 2020.. Miami Ohio looked like a pretty decent football team when we scheduled them and by the time we got around to actually playing the game they were a bottom 10 team
You would rather be 8-4 and never mentioned or talked about, rathee than 12-1, ranked and relevant and only taking schedule smack talk? Because we are still gonna get schedule smack at 8-4, because of the cusa schedule (warranted or not), except we never get national pub or recognition.
History will repeat itself unless we keep Doc and keep bringing in stud players.

The difference is, we are getting these teams at home now. We were playing ranked P5s in 1-0 type of deals. Lucky to get a 2-1. We are now getting 1-1 deals with regional P5s or AAC teams.
As for the Boise game. I think its a good series. I will be pumped to host a ranked Boise at our place, and I will enjoy going to Idaho for the game out there.
We will have a new QB the first year of the series. Wish we could have moved it up a year and played one of these Chase Littons SR year lol.

Just realized that Boise and Marshall have the best records of any current G5 since 1998. But boy is there a difference between 1 and 2... Mark Snyder era killed us.
Since 1998
-------
1.) Boise State 189-38
2.) Marshall 139-83
3.) Northern Illinois 138-84

Going 12-1 against bad teams doesn't help any. 12-1 conference champs played NIU in Boca. 7-1 right now only receiving 1 vote in coaches poll.
You talk like these games are losses already. Louisville, Pitt, NC State, Navy, ECU, Cincy, Boise, ect... are all going down.
History is going to repeat itself. The Herd is going on another run

Possibly but who knows what the future holds. You're speculating Litton will be there for the full time and that a "new" QB will be popped into place. Possibly? Sure anything is possible.

Why not go back to 1997 when Marshall moved up:
Boise 194-44
Marshall 149-86
NIU - 138-95
Same order, but makes us a little clear cut #2.

RE: Marshall/Boise announce home and home...
Because the BCS started in 1998, so even though we moved up in 1997, the landscape of college football seismically shifted in 1998, so the start of the BCS era has been a common point of reference,
Edit: if one did go back to 1997 instead, the Toledo would overtake NIU as #3.

Based on this lineup, I'm going to assume we'll go with an FCS team in 2016 to fill the 1 game left needed and that we're moving away from FCS games in the future unless we have to scramble to fill an opening on an upcoming schedule. Lots of others have said it, but I have to say 2020 looks incredible. With the 50th anniversary of the plane crash and having ECU on the schedule, and having both Pitt and Boise at home, that's a flawless OOC schedule for us.
I'd like to see 1 more top tier G5 program at home for 2018 and maybe even a payoff game against a regional P5 program that never plays @ G5 programs that year, as well. I'm thinking something like home vs Georgia Southern and @ Penn State/Tennessee/Georgia.
