RE: Week 9 - Western Kentucky
This is gonna be silly but I wonder if the students will be dressed up in costumes. My freshman year/our first year we had a night game on Halloween and the students showed up in full force in costumes. I would hope that a noon game would still make them show up and it would be cool to see if they decide to dress up

You'd probably get arrested for dressing up today.

"We'll be able to do a lot offensively with Shuler," Wilder said. "He has a great command of the offense. We'll be able to run a lot of plays and to check plays at the line of scrimmage."

Per a VP article today...... I'm glad BW thinks we will be able to do a lot with SB....but to date he has not shown the ability to do anything.

I guess we will see on Saturday

A) He's not going to say the guy sucks
B) I think he's referring to having an expanded playbook with Bentley because Bentley knows the system and can make checks at the line/etc. While DW performed well, he didn't have the repetitions at QB to have the same number of plays/audibles/etc.

I wouldn't look too much into it

Just curious and not hoping this happens at all.

If Bentley goes down with an injury, who is the next man up?

I think that would be Blake LaRussa.

Maybe Pascal! :)

Sure, it would be LaRussa. He's the last man standing. Though, Noye has been getting some snaps at QB

I personally like to see what the young man can do. I think the off-season QB competition will be very interesting.

I just hope the students actually show up. And the fans too. Any word on if this has any chance of being a sell out? If we had beaten FIU, I would have said yes, now... I kind of doubt it.

I think we'll be seeing WKU 's backups by the third quarter.

He brought us throughout the transition from fcs to FBS which is the main reason we stunk. He was a real good AD that most here at WKU still respect very much

RE: Week 9 - Western Kentucky
I was looking around the different boards and everyone has written off the Monarchs (and probably with some significant justification). However, I have some hopes and thoughts for this game:

1. Nobody gives ODU a chance in this one ..... so why not go out and punch them in the mouth and make them earn every single inch, yard, and point they get.
2. Would be nice to punish them physically .... getting aggressive in their face and let them know whose house they are in. Would like to see some heads roll.
3. How about no dumb mistakes like we have seen in past games (dropped coverage, arm tackling, dropped passes, etc.)
4. They are not some giant that cannot be taken down a notch -- they seem to be somewhat courteously arrogant concerning this game.
5. Play with some confidence that is fitting to the athletic talent that the team has. I don't care about youth, inexperience, blah, blah, blah!! Planning, Preparation, and Execution will go a long way.
6. QBs second chance to silence the naysayers .... give them something to 'shut up' about.

I care less about the score and win and more about the statement this team will make in this game. To me this is the crossroads for the season. It is either play to potential or pack it in for the season. We are getting the respect that we have earned and deserve at this point. If we truly get blown out and don't make this competitive I don't believe the rest of the season really matters.

GO MONARCHS. PLAY TO YOUR POTENTIAL.03-nutkick

A tale of two sides of the ball. In total offense, WKU ranks TENTH of 127 scored FBS programs. Defense is not so well off, 105th of 127.

ODU is young, so you cant get too mad at the 100th ranked offense and 94th ranked defense.

We are right in the ball park with FAU, UTSA, UTEP.

Don't exit stage left yet Monarchs...

I don't really understand the total offense stats. But WKU holds opponents to avg 24 points a game and for the most part most teams have been below they're average against us. The big plays we give here and there gives those yards but then we are real strong in the red zone defense dept. so the yardage given up don't always mean teams score on us.

RE: Week 9 - Western Kentucky
I think we'll know by midway through the first quarter what type of game this is going to be. Even if we get down by a little early, it would be huge to sustain a couple early drives and eat clock to build some confidence. These young guys need to make up for their lack of experience by playing with energy and emotion. If we go 3 and out and they score two early touchdowns it will quickly turn in to a here we go again attitude for the players and coaches (failed onside kicks, fake punts and trick plays).

ON a personal level, it's nice to see this type of response from Bentley. Really rooting for the kid.

If we pull that off, the season takes a whole new meaning.
