That moment when Trump's vulgar racism and xenophobia is no longer funny
Like many Americans, I had a good time laughing at this erstwhile reality TV entertainer and GOP frontrunner's bloviating and constant gaffes. His language was offensive but for a time I thought it was just harmless fun. Seems I was wrong about that.

At last night's Donald Trump rally held in the Trump National Miami Doral Resort located in the Miami suburb of Doral, Florida, his supporters dragged and then kicked peaceful protester Ariel Rojas to cheers.

It would be one thing if this was an isolated incident but unfortunately it's become apparent that if you disagree with Donald Trump, you risk getting hurt. Trump and his supporters have a history of racist and violent Hispanophobic behavior directed at the Latino/a community (and Muslims, although they're less vocal), and this is just the latest in a long line of such incidents.

Leader and his brother Steve, two Bostonians in their 30s, allegedly found the Latino man sleeping while they were on their way home from a Red Sox game. First, they urinated on him. Then they beat him with their fists and a metal pole. According to the police report, the man suffered “a broken nose, bruises on his head, and a large bruise across his torso.""Donald Trump was right.”

It goes without saying that none of this has happened at a Democratic rally, or on behalf of a Democratic candidate.

Sadly, all the education in the world may not stomp out the fascist inclinations of people. Would-be brownshirts won't wake up tomorrow, have an epiphany and buy the world a Coke. But we can shame them back under their rocks, and we can do the same to candidates who appeal to their worst impulses.

Donald Trump’s rhetoric has effectively dehumanized Latino immigrants and, by extension, all Latinos, to the point where his supporters no longer see them as people. Many with nationalistic tendencies have decided it’s time to take matters into their own hands. How long until these clowns decide to get matching shirts to identify their Trump allegiance and begin to organize?

It's not funny anymore.

Enforce the immigration laws we have and none of this happens.

It stopped being funny years ago. Immigrants dieing locked in tractor trailers or shipping containers. People smuggling themselves across the border carrying drugs just so they can get into the country.

Control the borders and those people can safely come and go to this country. The open borders people don't give a damn about Mexicans. They just continue to watch them die coming across the border.

This is why Trump will get a large share of the Latino vote. They know it could be better, but it can't be better until the U.S. decides to re-institute law and order at the border.

Poll: 67 Percent of Latinos Have 'Very Negative' View of Trump
http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/po...op-n435836

Favorability was only 11%.

Pro immigration reformers are responsible for deaths of immigrants because they won't build a wall to keep them from dying in trailers? That's a new one.

I agree; however, I am also tiring of Trump. I wish he'd just stick to issues and stop all the bashing stuff.

I personally have NEVER liked Trump as a person. Think he's just an ass. Not going to be an activity to look forward to, pulling the lever for him.

I don't think you are going to have to worry about that. It is going to come down to Cruz and Rubio, IMO, unless Romney gets in. We are still over 3 months away and very little money has yet to be spent.

We'll see. I could see him holding on until the last week before Iowa before collapsing (think Howard Dean). I just have trouble believing all these people, other than his most loyal cultists, are really going to pull the lever for him when push comes to shove. I also think he'll get hammered with hundreds of millions in negative ads, which have yet to start. I could be wrong and maybe he'll survive it.

Yep, he certainly has a lot of negatives from a conservative view.

RE: That moment when Trump's vulgar racism and xenophobia is no longer funny
I saw that. Its all over the Latino press.

Trump is vulgar. And its going to cost the GOP, regardless of who they nominate

It could cost them more. For some reason, Mexican American citizens don't vote in significant numbers. Its why Arizona and Colorado aren't solid Dem states and why Texas is still deeply red. But again, if you don't vote, you don't matter.

The very bad news for the GOP is that there is one state where Latinos DO vote in much greater numbers....And that state is Florida. And it is almost impossible for the GOP to win without Florida.

Florida has had a massive influx of Puerto Ricans since 2008. They're all American citizens and eligible to vote in Presidential elections as soon as they move to the mainland. Their voter participation rate is double that of Mexican Americans citizens. They don't have a monoparty tradition (Republicans can and do win elections in Puerto Rico), but the anti-immigrant GOP is really toxic to their chances. The Puerto Ricans also have a political rivalry in Florida with the historically GOP voting Cuban exile community.

The silence of the GOP field is deafening. At some point, silence does start to equal acceptance.
