Seems like there are a lot of openings in the middle of the season this year. Is this normal, our are there just a bunch of really bad coaches?

Why wouldn't they? His head coaching record is abysmal.

Midseason firings have become more popular, but this is unusual. Illinois and USC had special circumstances that had to be dealt with immediately. UCF and South Carolina were resignations. Only three were performance-related midseason firings.

Yeah, it's has been a lot of 'what have you done for me lately' going around before this but all these openings are unusual. As mentioned above, a lot of it can be contributed to more than programs caught in a slump, though.
Golden had to know this was coming. Those expectations are going to be unfairly high because it's a program used to being in the hunt for championships. They gave him plenty of time, too. Even though I'm not a fan of guys getting fired in the middle of the season, it was definitely time. Getting blown out is just a part of football sometimes, but that kind of loss reeks of the team giving up on you. You can always deal with the fans giving up, but when the players start to phone it in then it's over no matter who you are. If they didn't send Golden away now, then the attendance was sure to be dismal.

It's Miami, the attendance is always dismal.
Honestly i don't understand why he was brought back this year. He went 6-6, 7-5, 9-4 and 6-7 in his 4 prior years. Miami may not be what it was in the early 2000's, but it shouldn't be that bad in a fairly weak acc either. Fans expecting 9-10 wins a year aren't that out of line in my opinion.

RE: Golden out at Miami?
True, playing at the Dolphin's stadium really hasn't done them any favors but I imagine that attendance was going to be way worse if he stayed the rest of the year. I don't think 9+ wins is too much to ask, either. The ACC isn't that strong right now. Sure ND, FSU, and Clemson are always going to be tough outs, but they should be feasting on the current teams. I mean, the penalties from the NCAA weren't even harsh enough to really punish them to the extent that it'd put the program where it is now and it's not like he got yanked after a year or two.
They tried to do it the right way by getting a hot name that turned a annual loser around and giving him some time, but it just didn't work out. Who ever would have thought that Temple would be doing better without him, though.

Miami plays 51 miles away from campus. That certainly doesnt help attendance at all.

Look's like it's a coach's market right now. They will have choices between schools. Now who will have the deeper pockets... I am glad we have our coach, but this can throw a wrench in our OC hunt. Hopefully Clark already has a man and is just waiting for the off season to make it public.

RE: Golden out at Miami?
Private schools seem to generally be having a rougher time in today's football world than their wealthier state university counterparts. They can occasionally "catch lightning in a bottle" with the "right coach", but when he leaves, they usually fall back badly. Baylor, Duke and TCU have kept their good coaches, but Miami, Vandy, Wake and others have not been so fortunate. Stanford and Southern Cal seem to have the endowment money to avoid this fluctuation.
I also believe a factor in Miami's poor fortunes is the rise of FOUR other state universities (USF, UCF, FIU, FAU) - with two of them (FIU, FAU) essentially in Miami's back yard. When Miami rode high with two excellent coaches, these four schools were not offering the same talent pool a total of 100 D1 FBS scholarships each year as they do today. In football competitive terms, Miami may be an early victim of the money wars that the major universities can wage.
