Glad you were around before the great Crimson Tide hired Nick Saban. They'd never get back to where they were.

Been said before.
And certainly was said before they again won a national title and were national title competitive from 2000 through 2005.
Yes, since then they have been down by their standards. But Nebraska, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State etc..have all been through the same.

Interesting, this writer seems to think South Carolina has a better shot at landing Fuente than does Miami...
My hunch here is that South Carolina would seem a more intriguing option, and with more than 30 coaching jobs likely to turn over this winter, I’m skeptical that he would see Miami as the one he’d want.

Add Miami to the list of open jobs

Miami needs someone who can over their challenges of the last decade and can handle the rebuilding project.
Of all the potential jobs that will be open, Miami is the one with the most luster this side of USC. After what Fuente did at Memphis, and being offensive minded, I'd be worried that they would come hard at Fuente. And Miami is higher on the pecking order of college football than South Carolina or Indiana.
Fuente took the job at Memphis!!! I love my school, but that point alone tells you that Fuente isn't going to be elitist or biased about finding his next job.
He was a no-name O-coordinator. And he thought long and hard about taking this job. He didn't just take it to take it. He had damn good reasons, and you can see why he did now.
Why are you all up Miami's butt? Are you on their search committee?

There is chance that Memphis basketball will not ever reach Calipari-era again, so yes.
I have to question your reading comprehension. Here is my direct quote "They will get back to being a decent team".

Again, Do people not understand the words "will get back to being a decent team". I can't say they will be a national champion, as I do not have that good of a crystal ball.

I was referring to the 80s Tigers... But hey, I guess we reached the heights again.
Forget a decent team. Miami could be a national championship contender again. The U is always the U. Just like Bama is always Bama and Notre Dame is always Notre Dame.

@unclelukereal1: University of Miami please set up a committee of former players so they can have input into picking the new coach.

Because it's ridiculous to think that Miami isn't a great opportunity and if they pursued Fuente he wouldn't listen.

Correct- Miami is very capable of being a national title contender. If you believe the only upside they have is being decent- more power to you.

I have no inside information but there just appears to be something going on behind the scenes in Miami. On the surface, it seems they are just a good coach away from being a consistent playoff contender, but for some reason I really think they have dysfunctional leadership, or a dysfunctional structure in place. For that reason, I think Fuente may pick up the phone and talk to them, but ultimately would decline. Like that article pointed out, there are going to be lots of job openings and he will have ample opportunities, no reason to go somewhere he will not be a great fit at.

Because they go beyond an alcoholic, and become a drunk or they get butts kicked in a historic way on the field. Why not try to savage the season?

The season was already savaged and they couldn't salvage it, so strike while the firing iron was hot. It's easier to fire people when you're fired up. The fans prolly like it better too. They think you are doing something.
