USM fans will travel there based on previous bowl games there and IMO the opponent would not determine how many fans would make the trip. 8:00 pm on a Saturday night in the Dome....what's not to like

The belt opponent is the only thing I wouldn't like. But definitely a great date/time/location. I would agree USM is probably at the top of their list.

Based on travel, im hoping HoD wants tech and nola wants us. It would be difficult to travel to dallas from here for a 1pm kick on 12-26

Yikes! What would be the over/under if this happens?

Early kick the day after Christmas is rough. Tech's fanbase is close enough to make it work if we end up there.

Wondering, who has the larger alumni base in Dallas -- La. Tech or Rice?

If Marshall somehow wins the C-USA Championship, there is a very good chance it will be MU v. WVU in Dallas. Not the best opponent out there, but this is a possibility.

I bet the HOD bowl is hoping for Texas or Texas Tech and a CUSA West school. I don't know how many people from West Virginia would want to spend Christmas in Dallas. Illinois didn't bring many last year.

Agreed. I think the HOD Bowl has got to go to the CUSA West team. I think the HOD Bowl would prefer that too.

Marshall would travel more than you have for a home game if we got the HoD bowl vs WVU. That game would be a sell out. Pretty sure IF we win cusa and if WVU is 6-6, thatll be the game they set up. They would be stupid not too. Wvery flight to texas would be booked within a 3 hour radius of WV.

If WVU and Marshall sell 92,000 tickets the day after Christmas, 900 miles from WV, I'll be incredibly impressed.

Marshall would send 25k roughly. WVU would send 35 to 40 i would guess. Would be an excellent atmosphere for a crappy bowl.

The last time WVU played the day after Christmas the TOTAL attendance was 36k...against #23 Missouri. They aren't sending 35-40k to Dallas over Christmas to play Marshall.

La Tech for sure. Its undergrad enrollment is close to three times that of Rice.

Zero chance of Marshall vs WVU in a bowl game. WVU would lobby the Big 12 as hard as possible for any other option. A big part of me feels they'd even pass on a bowl game vs playing us if those were the only 2 options they had.

I doubt that. WVU would probably swallow their pride for the payout. Let's face it. $1.2 million is still $1.2 million. They're not like Notre Dame, who--in 2009--skipped out on the postseason when they were 6-6 and would definitely have gotten a bowl had they decided to play one more game.

But I think it's more likely that WVU wouldn't be sent to Heart of Dallas Bowl unless they had no other option. The Big 12 has plenty of options for the postseason.

Marshall means a bit more than Mizzou does to their fans. You would just have to trust me on that one.

No way in hell either school sends close to that. MU may send 10K, WVU maybe 15K.

No eligible team will be allowed to pass on a bowl this year since there is more than 50-50 chance that there will be less than 80 teams that finish 6-6 or better. The NCAA is likely to have to make up the rules as it goes along to get several 5-7 teams into bowl games.

Well that's just ducky. A team that beats Ole Miss vs. a team that can't beat Swiss Miss.

I mean, I'd still take it, but this can't possibly happen, right?

No disrespect but how pissed would Memphis be if they played in St Pete. They are currently undefeated and top 20 (#16) and then to end up there against a possible 6-6 ODU (or FIU) opponent. For Memphis to be here they'd have to lose to Houston but they would/should still be top 25 or 20 I'd think.

Edit: looking at remaining games and they still have Navy (5-1) at home as well as road games at undefeated Temple and Houston so they could end up with 2-3 losses in which case it would fit the record and AAC bowl order

If you're G5, you either get the slim possibility of making the playoffs or the Access Bowl. If you don't make those, the only alternatives are things like the St. Pete Bowl. None of the G5s have bowl tie-ins with any sort of name bowls.

So, an 11-1 Memphis team with a loss to 12-0 Houston goes to the St. Pete Bowl tp play ODU or the Birmingham Bowl to play a 6-6 SEC team.

Don't know if this is the case with this particular prognosticator, but I've seen some select a non Big 12 team for that bowl b/c they don't think it can be fulfilled. It's their last pick and assuming one Big12 in the playoff and one in an access bowl (or two like last year if left out of the CFP), it likely goes unfilled. In those very possible scenarios (like last year), they need 8 of 10 teams to be bowl eligible to fill their turns in the AF/HOD slot.

I agree. last year I saw the championship game in Marshall and it didn't even look like a sell out. If they can't sell out the championship game at home, I doubt they would send 25k to a bowl game.
