It's FCS Time
I know this will be met with the typical you're overreacting to a big loss, the MAC will kick us out, it will still cost $$ lines. But its increasingly clear we will never be able to sustain long term success with the football program. Can we have a periodic run like Hazells of a couple of years ago maybe but long term we're doomed. Zero interest from alumni, students and NE Ohio in general and dwindling resources. We had one of the best team in conference with a highly entertaining offense in town and no one showed. Ohio State wasn't playing and ND and Michigan were off. NO ONE cares!!!
Its time to have serious discussions with Akron (they're broke if you missed that news), Ohio, Miami, YSU, Dayton and the Missouri Valley conference and drop to FCS and form the MV east division.
What are we playing for??? That Go Daddy Bowl sure did do wonders for the pocket book and enrollment.

RE: It's FCS Time
Is there any guarantee that the other sports would continue to thrive in another conference? It would bump up the basketball side of things but we would lose the field hockey and gymnastics teams in the process and that is just a quick glance at their sports. So two of the more successful teams Kent has. Then they may need to drop more sports to make up for title IX. I didn't do the math but I'm sure a few more schollies would need to go to get to the right number.

This is the dumbest thread I've ever seen. Purposefully gut the entire athletic department because of one loss.

RE: It's FCS Time
FCS would be a money loss. Additional teams in a conference like the MVC (which by the way probably does not want to take a bunch of the MAC) would dilute the money coming in. FCS has most of the costs and much less money coming in so in the end you end up losing money. On top of that more often than not the most powerful conferences we are most likely to play are avoiding playing FCS schools (well at least that is what they say) which means we would be playing at less lucrative schools we used to consider peers and FCS schools get less money to start with.
There is a reason why schools either drop football or at best go non-scholarship football. Personally despite the years I have seen I would be very disappointed if they completely gave up on football.

I don't think its an automatic that the MAC would dump us if you have 4 teams banding together.
You may say its a dumb thread but explain the logic in throwing most of our athletic assets into a losing proposition year after year. Even in its glory what is the return??

We have one of the lowest paid coaching staffs in FBS. If progress wants to be made than money will need to be forked out. Not many will take a big pay cut to come here. It is possible to make it work.

I think if Kent were going to go this route, it should have been in the early 00s when their men's basketball team was spectacular. They chose not to and frankly, it's probably too late as all the sports besides football and women's golf seem to be declining.
The MAC is a great fit for Kent and that should be preserved.

RE: It's FCS Time
Even with this most recent embarassing loss, I still feel the football team is headed in the right direction. I really hope this Jekyll and Hyde persona is only temporary, until the team gets all the right parts.
Defense, running backs, & special teams are examples where there is hope for the future. Obviously, the most critical position, QB, is where there is still a big question mark. Either by experience gained, or by signing a flagship QB is where this will be addressed.
As for securing a fan base: forget about it. KSU, especially after May 4th, has been a GDI (gosh-darn independent) type of school. And I bet more KSU alums are bigger OSU fans than KSU football fans. I do not believe this will change. And whether you like it or not, having a D1 football program does have a certain caché, even if it is a losing proposition.
I agree, the MAC is probably the best place for the the Golden Flashes to be (unless KSU wants to become a Catholic school, and join the Big East. Then we could drop football and focus on basketball).

Because that "losing proposition" is the closest thing to a positive ROI of any program, and the money it makes(what little) basically funds all of KSU athletics. Explain the logic of turning down financing for the entire school because you don't like the football team.
And being a loser in division 1 is still more lucrative and reputable than being a champion in division 2.

No. Gut it because they put all their time and money into football with zero results. Upgrade the stadium, promotions etc and they can't out draw a large HS team

This will never happen BUT pay the HC 50k annually and 75 per win.

Hey don't pick on my alma mater!! We regularly beat the Little Sisters of the Poor
A true story. I was a freshman the year Case Tech and Western Reserve merged. They did not merge teams the first year. Case went 0-10. Reserve went 1-9 and I bet you can guess who they beat. The only university to go 1-19 with their only win being against themselves. They ended the lunacy the next year.

You can still enjoy football. Just pick a fantasy team or a real one to follow at a distance. Makes for an interesting fall without the pain.
You can get your KSU fix between November and June outside of football. Just because others at KSU are delusional about our football prospects doesn't mean you have to be.

I just bought OSU season tickets. When they drop football a level or the administration realizes the folly in dumping money into football I will be back. I still have hoops season tickets
