The loss blew... However,
I enjoyed being back in that atmosphere for the first time in two seasons. Gameday scene/turnout/production was amazing. JMU shined on a National stage in regards to hosting one of the best ever Gameday shows. It was great to see friends who read this board that I don't see often- Will, Wes, JMUSteeler, Purplewave, John C, Jmunation, J Dosh, Cervenek, etc... Let's hope EW and the defensive coaches wake up this week or otherwise the trip to play the featherless Tribe and Laycock will end up eerily similar to yesterday's game.

RE: The loss blew... However,
you know what else blows? the traffic management program at the end of games. Now I get that yesterday was a mass exodus at 25K people leaving at once, forget that. Why can't anyone get directed out the Port Republic exit of campus???? They let it go the first game or two and that was incredibly easy. Now it's changed to have to go up through east campus to University Blvd. It's absolutely a pain in the ass and it's ludicrous to route everyone out up that way.

They do just the opposite for basketball. We have to turn right and go to Port Republic Rd and then to I 81, when if they let us turn left out of the Convo we could take University straight to Rt 33.

I left right as the game ended & they let us drive out of P-Lot by Sonner & exit to Port. Maybe it's because you're exiting on the tunnel end of the lot.

Right on target there Deez. I have brought this up before --- traffic egress management at JMU sporting events (Football and Men's Basketball) seems to make no sense. They typically change from game to game for no apparent reason. Traffic direction out of the convo after basketball games is the worst, especially since I don't even think it is really needed.

Agreed, but it is hit/miss sometimes they direct you right, sometimes left.

Hey dudes - Just an outsiders opinion - I turned your game on late in the 3rd quarter, I thought it was one of the more compelling games of the day. Exciting football, crowd looked and sounded great on television. Really good showing. Sorry you took an L (it happens.)
Anyway - props to the Dukes this week.

The loss blew... However,
The biggest issue i see is that there is no coordination between the cops directing the traffic. One cop is waving people on while the next one a block later has them stopped. Just letting the stop lights run their programmed sequence could do a better job.

They break it down into sections , certain sections can exit towards Port , and if you know Harrisonburg you are no more than a few turns away from the direction you want to go. Port Republic gets backed up really easy.

The stop lights would have 25k waiting forever. And every morning they coordinate the intended traffic direction for post game , but when you are in the field things happen and some delays happen. Believe me , we want to get the traffic dlowing as fast as you do.

my wife was griping about the traffic and I said, "i'll sit through this every single week if it means bridgeforth has 26k fans in it." It's a mild inconvenience for a greater picture.
We could be richmond and bring only 8k fans per game... and that's just the announced number.

OK Deez, weren't you one of the ones defending Port Republic as not needing any significant upgrades on an earlier thread?
The Port Republic/I-81 interchange has an antiquated design that just can't handle large numbers of cars very well - minimal turn/exit lanes, left turns to get on and off I-81, lots of traffic lights, etc. It was built to accommodate James and Dolley when they went for their Sunday afternoon buggy rides. The only reason it currently functions at all is that so many people use an alternate road/exit to get where they're going during heavy traffic situations.
If police let everyone who thought they wanted to exit on Port Republic go that way, it would be complete gridlock in about 2 minutes. Gridlock in a campus parking lot sucks, but gridlock on city streets is far worse. IMHO.

RE: The loss blew... However,
my beef with the port road deal is that campus entrance/exit is often bare with 6 cars waiting to leave out a 2 lane road that only people in the deck seem to get to leave by. P lot, the field, Hanson, and Godwin lots all get choked out up the hill through one lane funneled into the D2 and east campus traffic, and it is a disaster. P lot and at least one or two of the other lots should be directed out to port rd.

You might be right, but without seeing what the traffic looks like on Port, it's hard to say. Pouring the water faster into the funnel doesn't make come out the bottom any faster. The Port/I-81 interchange is a narrow-mouthed funnel.

You all should have watched a couple of sets of volleyball, exiting was a breeze at that point.
