Oxford: What I Learned
I'm sure there are plenty of you reading this who already knew, but apparently when Ole Miss has a home game the visiting fans AND TEAM stay in Memphis.

I ran into a lot of Aggie Fans last night. They stay and play in Memphis and then head to Oxford on game day. No hotels, nothing to do there, etc.

The aTm team buses and equipment truck were parked at the Crowne Plaza East at Perkins & 240.

I never gave it much thought before.

The Tigers used to stay at Whispering Woods down in OB before the on-campus Holiday Inn was built. Ole Miss used the same hotel for their home games. The Tigers and the Rebels were in the same hotel at the same time more than once. Thought that was interesting

Guess they open up the gate to their wall and let the visiting team in.

The last University of Memphis athletic director was pooh poohed and ridicluled for using the airport as a "selling point" during that chaotic conference realignment musical chair time period.

Some isolated college towns don't have or maintain ample amenities such as lodging, transporation, food, etc to deal with large numbers of fans and visitors.

Very interesting.

I have seen a lot of visiting fans at our airport, before heading to Oxford. Of course. Never really asked them where they were staying, but would not be that surprised if a lot of them were staying here as well.

Was on stage at wc handey park when they practiced their yells at midnight the year they joined the sec. Love em or hate em, you have to respect the Aggies tradition.

I played at Silky's last night and we had over 800 Aggie fans pay at the door for the patio alone. They made the night on par with Music Fest weekend. 04-cheers

$EC should kick out a couple of bottom feeders and admit U of M Tigers.
This has been discussed as recently as in the past 5 years.

not by the s.e.c. every lame mention of our joining the sec makes our fans look bush league and desperate (or administration in the case of RC's stupid reference).

and it will be used by sec lackeys to discount our new league affiliation should we jump to the acc or big12

I hope the CVB and local sports authority take advantage of these regular marketing and outreach opportunities.
