EL PASO, Texas (KFOX) — An El Paso teacher is under investigation after footage of her confronting a student went viral.
Another student recorded the argument between an Irvin High School teacher and a student inside a classroom.
According to the video, it appears the confrontation began when the student threw a sharpener in class.
The video shows the teacher yelling at the student to leave, but the student refuses.
The teacher started yelling profanities at the student when the student went towards her.
Some Irvin students said they don't know what to make about the incident.
"It takes two people to argue and fight so obviously they would have to investigate and see the reason behind the argument," said senior Rene Garcia.
"She just changed because she just snapped," said senior Chris Thompson. "Anybody can put their hands on you and you're going to change. It just happens."

Depends.. what happened prior to the thrown sharpener?

If the teacher started the issue, then maybe it's an issue... but if the student did it on their own.. I have no sympathy for the kid.

Kids know they can try to get away with pretty much anything and the administration will almost always punish the teacher.

You've got to be batshit crazy to be a teacher nowadays. Every kid has an iphone and a mama with a lawyer.

I don't know anything other than what has been reported. They interviewed one of the students in the classroom on the local news and she said the student threw a stapler.

The teacher has since resigned.

Eh, had a 6th grade teacher that was infamous for throwing erasers. She's kind of a local legend. No one every thought to fire her though.

My teachers in Ireland would all have been fired. They used to do all kinds of **** that would grow American parents into a tizzy.

When I was in the fourth grade, I had a teacher that would throw an eraser at you if he caught you talking. No one ever thought of even complaining about it.

Things have certainly changed. We used to be considered heroes, now it seems we are the enemy.

I agree.

It's unfortunate that teachers today have to do so much more than teach. They basically have to worship the little aholes and raise them at the same time.

This may get interesting. Not this specific story, but the lack of kids moving into the teaching ranks to replace retirees. I think the largest deficiencies are going to be in the middle and high school ranks. Too many people want to become elementary ed teachers, not enough in the upper grades. I think a lot of the standardized testing plus the lack of respect for teachers by kids and parents is the turning point moving forward. Kinda scary.

I could do it, but only with elementary school kids. I can handle temper tantrums, etc, but would lose it with some of the older special snowflakes.

I've seen a few teachers lose it over the years. I have had two instances where a student challenged me to a fight. It's very, very difficult to keep your cool when someone you know you could crush like a beer can is all up in your face talking, cursing and threatening you.

Well, I'm raising two elementary school kids now and haven't killed anyone yet. So, I've got that going for me, which is nice.

That's where being a professional comes into play. You know the person in front of you yelling, etc is an absolute idiot and unless you want to be one too, you act above that and do what needs to be done.
