Are people seeing changes in P5 OOC scheduling?
Pitt's new AD came out with his scheduling philosophy moving forward.

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2015/10/2...ower-five/

Basically, Pitt will no longer schedule H/H games with G5 schools. I assume 2:1 and 1 and done is still on the table. This is a new direction from what Pitt has done under Pederson in the past regarding OOC scheduling. Frankly, I'm surprised he is taking this approach. My guess is that BYU and the academies would still be H/H games if future games are agreed upon plus I can see Pitt giving exceptions to 1 or 2 schools on top of that who are in G5 conferences like Cincy.

Question for the group is has your school made similar plans moving forward regarding OOC scheduling if you are a P5 fan/alumnus? Or, if you are a G5 fan/alumnus have you seen a difference in future OOC schedules with P5 schools?

RE: Are people seeing changes in P5 OOC scheduling?
WVU decided to quit scheduling FCS schools when Shane Lyons became AD, and are now scheduling 2 P5 schools each year, with one G5 school as well. But those G5 deals will either be 1 time deals, or 2-1 in the future. This policy begins next season.

For some of the Mtn West schools that I have overheard, there is a couple more H/H with P5.

San Diego St just signed up Utah for a H/H deal in 2021 and 2022.

It may be due to geography. PAC would be at a disadvantage scheduling in the west based on the sparse number of schools to choose from compared to the schools further east. But that's interesting to know to be sure.

Could be. But still the PAC could do more 2 for 1 or 1 and done game if they really want to also. Either some the MW schools are getting money games from the SEC or Big 10 where they can hold a few PAC schools to H-H agreements or the PAC (not sure if it is them or the Big 10) has stated it is financially better to schedule H-H with G5's than 1 and done.

Not at all, actually. I think Pitt will be scheduling 2 P5 schools almost every year plus they seem to be regularly scheduling 1 FCS every season as the first game, so that's already 3 out of 4 games committed per year. It's not like we're talking a slew of games here.

There are a few more of those. Cal played at home vs. SDSU this year and is at SDSU next year. Stanford also has a 1/1 series set up with SDSU. Boise has a 1/1 with Wazzu and 1/2 with Oregon State.

These deals, on paper, cost the G5 team money when you compare playing a 1/1 with a P5 team to playing 2 buy games. If the going rate for a buy game is $1 million or more, then 2 buy games would get them $2 million or more. Instead, they're playing a 1/1 with no net money coming in, and their only revenue from the 1/1 set is whatever money they net from the one home game. Just as a guess, they'd have to sell close to 50,000 tickets for that home game to net $2 million. Maybe these teams have boosters who are pressing them to schedule more home games and donating to compensate for the lower amount of revenue.

Pitt can do that now because of the ACC games.

8 game conference schedule + Annual game with Penn State

Then probably regular matchups with Big 10 schools like Maryland, and they get Notre Dame every 5 to 6 years now. But if Notre Dame becomes ACC conference mate (9 game conference schedule) plus Penn State. Then not scheduling against G5s is possible, but still hard.

Stupid for a school like Cuse to do this...we need to play in Florida, Philly, Ohio, New England, Deep South, VA, etc...for our recruiting and it is also where we have alumni and fans.

I hadn't heard that. But it's not surprising. But the original deal was made by Eddie Pastilong. Oliver Luck bought out a few games, and pushed others back a few years, to allow more lucrative scheduling options to be made.

I'm curious to see whether or not Lyons keeps to his pledge, or whether WVU's lobbying for ECU will make it more likely the deal is extended. At this point, it could go either way.

Not just Syracuse. I think you'll see a good number of home-and-homes with teams in southern California (SDSU), Florida, Texas, maybe Georgia. Maybe home-and-homes with Ohio MAC teams, for Big Ten West schools in the big empty flat states.

If you guys want to play an Ohio school tell your AD to give ours a call.

I'd be fine with a Bearcats game OOC, but in terms of geography, the Xavier game covers SW Ohio for us. :)

This isn't sarcastic, but doesn't playing in the ACC do almost all of that. Outside of Philly and Ohio.

Not in Florida, Georgia, Virginia...being in the Atlantic Division limits our play against Miami, GaTech, VT, UVA. Sure we play FSU but Tally is 4-7 hours from the state's population.

On that note, I'll throw out my idea for what the ACC might do if the new rule is, in fact, "Do your own thing."

North group: BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville
Central group: VT, UVA, UNC, NCSU, WF, Duke
South group: Clemson, GT, Miami, FSU

Play everyone in your group every year. Play everyone else every other year. That gives everybody 8 conference games. OVer 4 years, you host and go to every ACC school once.

I'm not 100% sure the math works, but I think it does.

EDIT: As God as my witness, I thought I was posting in the CCG thread.
