I really think they already have an invite into the P5. With how much is left on his current contract, that is one thing that would be extension worthy IMO.

RE: Mike Bohn contract extended to 2021
Why extend now--- Follow the Money!

AD's are generally measured on the $$$ the bring in to the department (coaching hires too but to date he really has not had to go there). I have to think Bohn has to be knocking the cover off the ball on bringing in the dough when you consider he was involved in collecting $$$ for Nippert, raising $$$ for the new 5/3 deal, brokered the Under Armour deal and like it or not is a key cog in the FC Cincinnati deal (which will provide new turf, new locker rooms and a new scoreboard/sound system for Nippert).

We are not privy to stuff behind the scenes. What if a benefactor(s) went to Dr. Ono and told them to extend Bohn or else the well was going to run dry? What if a president from a P5 school called Dr. Ono and said he wanted to interview Mike for the open AD position at his school? I can see any one of these as a possibility to explain why now.

Edit: Also, as others have noted if we are already in a P5 it could also be a why now.

Why would the conference that's extending this "invite" not want us to make it public? That's a pretty big recruiting chip we could be playing.

What good are contract extensions anyway? People always just buy their way out of them when the inclination strikes to just not honor them.

The inviting conference always holds all the aces. It's their call as to when and where to announce and a new member's recruiting cycle for one season won't drive that. Conference championship deregulation voting, vetting of additional prospective new members or negotiating sensitive media deals could be some of several reasons the lid is screwed down tightly. And my sense right now is that everyone around UC has been told not to make any comments regarding conference realignment. Then again, there just may not be any more to say.

RE: Mike Bohn contract extended to 2021
So, I'm thinking about the UC sharing the turf with Cincinnati FC. An invite to a P5 conference, no matter which one, will require replacing some or all of the turf (I'm not sure how to get rid the giant A easily). So to move those together, will allow it to be cheaper for athletics in the long run (turf work is expensive, no matter how small). Isn't the turf supposed to be changed after the 2016 season? So UC in a P5 in 2017?

Or, we were told to speed up arena renovations for invite, to get done ASAP. Started after 2015-2016 season, 2016-2017 season is at somewhere, 2017 season back in 5th third, so UC in a P5 in 2017?

Mike Bohn's contract was up in 2018, P5 wants athletic stability, so first 4 years in the P5, we have the same AD?. So, UC to p5 in 2017?

So either we are getting into a P5 before the 2017 football season, or I'm thinking into coincidences WAY too much. I think it's the latter.

And I agree, way too much.

I can assure everyone that we have a double secret invite to a P5 conference. I can also assure you that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone and was helped by the CIA and Cuba. I can also assure you the 9/11 Twin Towers Disaster was an Israeli plot. Also Neil Armstrong nor any American ever set foot on the Moon.

Replacing part of the turf is simple. You just cut out the old section and sew the replacement in.

I was under the impression that the current turf in Nippert was coming out at the end of the season with it going to Sheakley and the old Sheakley turf going to Higher Ground. The soccer clowns would have something that would fit over the new turf.

Thats what i thought and heard as well. So both football and soccer get what they want and everyone is happy. UC especially considering the extra revenue being brought in by the soccer "clowns".

In case it's blocked from where you work:

Quote:CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) -
The University of Cincinnati signed Athletic Director Mike Bohn to a new deal that extends his contract through 2021, UC President Santa Ono announced on Wednesday.

Bohn came to Cincinnati in February 2014, after spending almost nine years as the athletic director at the University of Colorado. His initial contract with UC, a five-year deal, was extended after Bohn and Ono had a lengthy conversation about UC’s plans going forward.

“When I talk about seismic transformation, you think about the entire neighborhood,” said Bohn. “We want national respect and the ability to play on the biggest stage possible. It’s really fun to be a part of. I feel like this is our time.”

In just 20 months, Bohn has played a major role in giving the campus a new look with the $86 million renovation of Nippert Stadium and plans to begin an $85 million renovation of Fifth-Third Arena beginning in March 2016.

There has been talk about UC making a move to a power five conference such as the Big 12. Bohn would not directly comment on the current status of any change in conference, but admitted it’s something he sees a possibility down the road.

“There’s yet to be some shifting coming ahead, but who knows when that is,” Bohn said. “When you talk about being the class of the league, regardless of the league we’re in, we want to be one that’s recognized as hosting major games.”

Also, if you compare Bohn to MT he must seem like the greatest AD since Bob Goin or Mike McGee
