Having been around athletics all of my life, "choice" is a euphemism for "pray our way". And I am a Christian/Catholic so I'm not coming from as agnostic/atheist view.

It has been over 30 years since, but my football coach actually grabbed my hand and held it when I went to genuflect before a team prayer. I learned my lesson that day that in that not only was the team to pray together, but we are going to do it the way the coach's religion dictates.

I would think all hell would break loose on all sides if a coach denied a kid the right to exercise his own religous beliefs. Especially like holding a kids hand.
Guess I was lucky, we didn't have those kind of conflicts, and we were a pretty diverse group...religion wise. We had both protestant AND Catholic.
