It's basically what the producers and director said in so many words. They had to do damage control with the way the prequels soured on many older fans and geeks and so they wanted the feel and look of the new movies to remind them of the good old days plus they wanted to start with a new generation of fans. They also said that they left many of the questions and plot unanswered because they are going to stretch out those things out in the other movies. Abrams said that just like the originals, we didn't know who Luke father was until Empire Strikes Back, we didn't know Leia was Luke's sister until the Return of the Jedi and so this move is more of an introduction rather than a revealing movie

What is the correct sequence to watch the movies now?

There's a method called the Machete Order that I've been wanting to try. It's IV, V, II, III, VI. You could put I after V in that, but he gives a pretty good explanation on leaving it out.

Holy crap. That's genius.

This movie is going to be very formulatic.

Rey is the new Solo, since she is a she gets gets a dude sidekick and 4 here may be romantic tension with the new wedge called Poe eventually. Han Solo dies off giving Rey her Obi Wan moment like Vader striking down him with Luke watching. There will be a planet turned into a new type Death Star with a super weapon. Epic battles. I bet Rey meets Luke at the end and he's her Yoda. It's basically A New Hope with a desert planet with some Empire thrown in down to a snow plant with a new Alderaan getting it's ass whooped in between

Good call

RE: Star Wars
There is an edited "hardcore" version of the last 3 movies out there somewhere where JarJar speaks in an alien tongue and fans have edited it to be more in-line with star wars cannon. No idea if it's still out there or Disney has pulled it.

Try the anti cheese edits on YouTube they make the prequels half way watchable
