APR Question
I just saw this article from Farmville, VA and it appears that Pimentel had some charges dropped--glad for him. Even though he's suspended indefinitely it doesn't mean that he isn't in school and progressing academically. However, it causes me to think about Anechebe and several of the former recruits that didn't stay on for a variety of reasons.

My assumption is that if any of these players does not finish their 4 year degree after leaving ODU, it's a hit to our APR correct?

RE: APR Question
I'm pretty sure our basketball APR has been perfect since Jeff Jones came on board. It was getting to be an issue just prior to his arrival if memory serves correct.

No, it's the NCAA, it's not that simple. I don't completely understand it, but their GPA during their time here is also a factor. Basically, if it's a satisfactory GPA when they leave, they won't really negatively impact the calculation of APR.

Based on the link below, I think it's more about what their academic standing at ODU is when they leave. So Ekene only hurt ODU when he left. If never graduates, he won't affect ODU's APR again

RE: APR Question
You lose a point when an athlete leaves school.
You lose another point when an athlete leaves ineligible.

You don't lose a point when an athlete leaves and has a sufficient GPA (I believe it's something over a 3.0, leaving eligible by itself doesn't get the point back).

Measure of graduation and retention.

What hurts is when athletes fail out and then don't even attempt to go back to school. Sports with partial scholarships and scholarship limits have to deal with this the most, because if you're offering books and a small ride (say, $1500), and that athlete craps down their leg, it hurts your APR. Sports like wrestling, where there are 10 starting spots, yet 9.9 max scholarships (and about half the schools don't offer the max), one risky recruit could tank your APR since the APR deals with kids on scholarship, not walk-ons.

For what it is worth, my son goes to Longwood. Pimentel has been suspended indefinitely for being charged with Marijuana possession on 10/6/15. I am glad that this guy left ODU. Seems like he has had one issue after the other since he left.

Maybe he had some issues here....... I would say BT made the correct move in removing him from the program
