Ole Miss was riding high in the late 50's and 60's before segregation ended. By the mid-70's, when the black athlete became an important factor in big-time college football, Ole Miss's old South symbols, which had previously been a strong asset, became a recruiting liability.

my grandpa was a starter for Ole Miss in the late 50's (he left the year before they won the national championship)

AP was top 10 only for sure. What I posted is what shows up for UPI which was a thing until fairly recently.
