We had fun too...in spite of the drizzle and cold.

I do remember trudging to games with our group, knowing we would lose. And not playing against Alabama either, but facing SMU or the like and knowing we would lose.

We felt an obligation, as program supporters, to go...believing it would help down the line. Not trying to make that anything more than it is...but yesterday, and Cincy and the solid crowd in Miami for the BYU beating made it pay off.

Beat Tulsa, and it is easy for butts to come in on Halloween. And THAT is great!

My 20-year old grandson asked me yesterday if I ever imagined our football program reaching its current height. I answered SURE: for one thing we were basically once already at this point in 1963 and for another I have always said that national championships can be won here same as anywhere else. I also told him that what I NEVER imagined seeing was the depths that our program sank to on the 4100 club night. That nightmare is now in the past and perhaps, as Nietzche said, that which did not kill us, only made us stronger.

By your presence and support and prodding, you helped bring this program back from the brink of extinction a few years ago. Happy days, bowl games, and winning seasons are here again. Pat yourselves on the back tonight and savor this win! There are no finer fans anywhere.

Wear your Tiger gear around town with pride, and flaunt the fact that we have a great university and football program and coach and President and AD here. Not to mention the players and band and cheerleaders!!!

Was that enough to get you to change your name?
Great post! I second this motion.

It's time to leave that great memory (your screen name) in the past and look forward to newer and greater memories. And with Tennessee pretty much being a non-factor these past several years, it only makes sense. I would like to open the floor for nominations for a name change.

I will begin the nominations for new names with the obvious: '34-27 Best Time I Ever Had'

Any others? 03-wink

Did you copyright that?
I am going with '37-24 Best Time I Ever Had'!

We need a thread predicting the attendance at yesterday's game ten years from now: I'm saying 175,000 will say they were there, but that might be too small.

RE: To the 20,000 hard core Tiger fans and the 4100 Club
I will consider changing my name by the end of the season. I may just go back to Alterego2, if I can remember my password.

I will never forget coming out of the little tunnel to find my seat on that 4100 day, after the rain, everything wet, a golden glow in the afternoon sunset, the security guard at the top of the ramp, and looking down into a stadium, literally thirty minutes before game time, and seeing ~ I kid you not ~ about 30 people in the entire Liberty Bowl. It was surreal. I felt like I was looking at the death of Tiger football, and realizing anyone would think me a fool for going to the game. But there was no way in hell I was abandoning my players and my team that day.

That is what makes this resurrection so damn sweet. I hope I NEVER forget where we came from, in the recent past, as we go from strength to strength in the future. Knowing how great this program was when I first saw Memphis in Crump Stadium in 1963 against Ole Miss gives me confidence that, with the support of a President and AD and a good coach, we can do anything.

The funny/sad thing about that 4100 game was that I had talked my dad into going a few weeks before the game. He hadn't been to a Tigers game in probably 30 years.

The night of the game I showed at his house with rain gear and he asked me if I really wanted to go. I talked him into it. We didn't stay the whole game and he hasn't been back to a game since.

Love your post but you should change the subject from '4100' club (although I know what you mean...I was at both games) to read the '400' club...yep I was there. Saddest thing i ever saw. 400 freakin' people...

Now to the good stuff..
Saturday was a magical day for TigerNation....

Justin Fuente's first game, and most recent game...

If I recall correctly: That 'first game' had a four hour weather delay. It was cold, windy, raining, the game didn't end until after midnight, and we lost to UT-Martin. Proud to say: We were there (until the bitter end) then, and we were there (until the celebration's end) yesterday.

True story...attended the last home game under Coach Porter....the phrase "lead balloon" would be an apt description. Fast forward to this year....and WOW!

The clincher for me....seeing a full and INVOLVED student section.

It is truly a good time for Memphis football

the student section has been heartwarming all season - just another thing that Dr Rudd's leadership is getting right. its always been true that the key to building our season ticket base is to hook people while they are students - build the relationship then, not when the stove is cold.

Thank you, I am remote now, but attended every home game from 83-2003 and then some. Still have my tickets. They get used. I was so happy for a lot of my long time Tiger fans on Saturday.

Time to get out those sunglasses again!
