Fall Ball vs. Lamar
I watched innings 3 to 10. It looked a lot like last year's team:

- too few hits by the offense
- too many walks by the pitchers
- too many errors by the defense

Duplantier and Pettitte both struggled with control.

But Duplantier's arm looked loose and free. He hit up to 94 on the gun.

We're down 16-4. I know it's just an exhibition game but still, that's a pretty lopsided score.

That's more embarrassing than any of our preseason losses under Bailiff.

04-jawdrop I guess that RICE BB hasn't plateaued; it's COLLAPSING, as I predicted for the last several years since the Savery class [the last class in which I coached several of the RICE recruits previously in Little League!!04-jawdrop04-jawdrop]. 03-nutkick

Did we really get beat that bad during that scrimmage? Sure it's a scrimmage and they must have played more than 9 innings...but that is really not a good sign.

Disappointing start.

A few years ago when these scrimmages were taking place those lines were roughly flipped and these boards were critical of the performance...a la current football convos. Any insight from the baseball folks on what it looked like beyond the line scores? Are guys hurt? Young guys playing? Etc?

SIX ERRORS?????

Is the line score accurate? There must be a column missing - right? Is the 6 referring to errors or LOB?

6 errors is correct. We also walked 12 batters. Very ugly game. A lot of damage was from our 2nd line pitchers. Luckily we have a lot of time to straighten things out.

Lack of talent. Lack of coaching.

Fortunately, we play in a crappy conference (like football) where we will be able to hide the deficiencies for a while.

I was there for much of it and it just looked bad. I don't want to read too much into a scrimmage, but the same problems from last year were still there. Graham did the freshmen a lot of playing time, so that was a factor that should be duly noted.
