OT - Bridge Day
Today is Bridge Day in West Virginia. If you'd like to check out images of the jumpers as the day progresses, and you have a break in the football action you're checking out at the time, here's the link to the Bridge Day WV Facebook page.

Here's the seat to have during the activities too. Who would be up for this?

Bridge Day... They close US-19 over the New River Gorge bridge and let BASE jumpers and bungee jumpers fling themselves off. To my knowledge, only one person has ever died during the sanctioned jumps. A couple of years back, one jumper failed to deploy their chute...the thinking is that he may have had a cardiac event and lost consciousness on the way down...

He did. He was old too. The person the began the "BASE" jumping sport. He hadn't jumped in decades. And he was going to do it all these years later. Had a heart attack and died on the way down. Sad.

Most people are fine, short of landing in the river, or being Johnny-bad-asses, and waiting too long to throw their chute and breaking their legs or something stupid.

It's an awesome day tho. Fun stuff to do all throughout Fayetteville. Great biking/hiking too.

It was very unnerving getting ready to jump after seeing the river turn red too.

RE: OT - Bridge Day
The New River Gorge Bridge is 876 feet above the New River, 3030 feet long, 70 feet wide, and weighs approximately 88 million pounds. New River Gorge Bridge is one of the highest vehicular bridges in the world, and is the fourth longest steel single-span arch bridge in the world.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with BASE jumping, BASE stands for: Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth (like cliffs). The video for 2015 Bridge Day isn't out yet. But take a look at last year's video.

Anybody up for something like this?
