I wonder how many of us remember the troll who plagued Owlzone. I recall the IT gurus in The Zone determined where he posted from based on his IP address. Since he was posting during the work day they presumed he posted from work. They sluthed his name and employer, then shamed him to his boss for wasting so much work time on line.

He never came back.

Has the Rice baseball program plateaued?

Kendall Rogers:
Allen,
I don’t think there’s any doubt that Rice needs to have a big year at some point to get some of that mojo back. Is Rice still a solid program? Absolutely. Is Rice the elite national power that it was once was? I would argue that is not the case at this point, and would say that Houston is probably on the verge of passing Rice up at this point.

Scary to see the comment about Houston.

UH has returned to the baseball map, and they were better than us last year (though, by Pellet's and other's perspective, we were better since we beat them in the Regionals), I question whether they're on the verge of passing us. Keep in mind, that as much as Kendall admires The OG, Coach Whitting sucks up big time to Kendall, and that has obviously slanted Kendall's perspective a bit. BTW, Houston returning to Top 25 status is good for us; not bad.

Agreed that UH returning to Top 25 is good for us, but that isn't what scares me. It is that national perception sees them as on the rise and us on the decline. I think you overvalue the influence Whitting has on Kendall - I think most impartial observers would say the same thing about UH as compared to Rice. We haven't appeared to have our "mojo" for the last couple years and people have started to notice.

Disagree. I think very few of the college baseball pundits would put the UH program ahead of us...and, in fact, Kendall and Fitts didn't either, as they had us as the #19th program and UH as #28, I believe, in their ranking (based on current trending) publish a couple months back. Whitting feeds Kendall a steady stream of PR, which kendall turns into articles or blog entries

Walt, I, nor Kendall, stated that UH was definitively better than Rice. However, Kendall basically said that UH has momentum, while we don't, which could lead them to passing us. Hence "on the verge of passing Rice soon."

Do you disagree with that? Do you think that we have more momentum that UH right now? To me, it seems like we are trending down from the mountain top while UH is trending up. Unless something changes, UH does look poised to pass us as the premier college baseball team in Houston.

If you disagree with that assessment, what results in the past two years make you disagree with that? We may have sent UH packing in last year's Regional, but we didn't make it out ourselves, and we played them even last year in games.

UH has had 2 very good, back-to-back years-- one was just below our level (as we got the regional hosting nod in 2014, and they didn't) and the other was just above. I'm not sure that gives them momentum and us on the way down.
