I remember that WVU game very well. Cards blew a 24-7 lead in the 4th Qtr. Knew we would lose in OT

Video is obviously fake, that game never happened. Just ask the NCAA.

Time should not have stopped when Leinart fumbled out of bounds and the "Bush Push" was illegal....

Once Pat White took over for Adam Bednarik, all the momentum went to the Mountaineers. He and Slaton announced their presence on the national stage that night.

And there was an article the other day I saw that discussed how close Pat White was to transferring because he wasn't satisfied with the amount of playing time he was getting prior to the Louisville game. According to the article, he was pondering making an announcement about transferring after the Louisville game, and then the injury to Adam Bednarik that changed everything.

Louisville linebacker Brandon Johnson takes down WVU QB Adam Bednarik early in the fourth quarter. Bednarik's foot injury paved the way for Pat White to take the reins. (Matt Freed/Post-Gazette)

Pat White came in and took over the reins of the Mountaineer offense, and the rest is history.

NO STANDING PAT
WVU vs. Louisville: October 15, 2005
In one game, the fortunes for a quarterback, a team and a fanbase changed forever

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Wrote:Heading into the Louisville game, it appeared Bednarik had solidified his spot as the starter. In a victory against Rutgers one week prior, White barely saw the field, finishing with one pass and two rushing attempts. It was only six games into his first collegiate season, but he was nearing a breaking point.

White:Honestly, at that point, I was almost ready to give up and give in. I had spoken to my father after the Rutgers game and we talked about how frustrated I was with the amount of snaps I was getting. The week before we had played Virginia Tech and we almost came back and beat them, but we lost on a few mishaps that cost us. He pretty much told me to go out every day that week, the Louisville week, and give everything I had for every play I was in during practice. If at the end of the week I felt the same, he would at that time bring me my baseball glove and I was going to head for professional baseball. I’m thankful I was able to reach out to somebody I loved and trusted and got that advice. Because had I not had anybody to speak with, I would have been very frustrated that week and when my opportunity arose in the Louisville game, I wouldn’t have been ready.”

Yup, they gave Lloyd an extra second or two to get the better of Joe again. Michigan made good on that loan and took one or two away from Notre Dame a few seasons later. The universe returned to equilibrium.

We had some bad luck. In a short stretch, the defense put two or three starting quarterbacks out of the game (and in WVU's case their starting RB as well), and the backups came in and absolutely destroyed UofL. That White/Slayton combo.... no one even knew what hit them until about three weeks later and the dust settled.

That games marked the true beginning of the RichRod golden era. It was an unbelievably important game and win.

And without the injuries that occurred in that game, it might never have happened. Pat White would have gone back to baseball, and RichRod's star would not have risen like it did.

No invitation for Rodriguez from Michigan, no golden era for WVU, no long term security for RichRod, and no invite to the Big XII. Everything fell into place the way it has because of that game.

Wasn't this the game where Charlie Weiss gets the huge contract extenstion from ND? You lose a game, and here is the contract extension. What could go wrong?02-13-banana
