Yet, if they went to 9, they would need to go to 10 to balance things. Of course, this assumes ivy folks would want to see their athletics teams or get govt funding, probably don't care about the first and don't need to worry about the second. I would guess the only way the ivy ever expands would be to bump up to 10 with army and navy with or without football.

One thing to consider, though, is that the Ivy League (particularly Harvard) has had a very fractured relationship with the military ever since Vietnam. It's almost like the Pac-12's stance against BYU on cultural/religious grounds.

Those Hatters really are Mad (their nickname is the Mad Hatters). The Ivy League? Really? I suppose it never hurts to try but Rutgers or Syracuse would be more likely to become an Ivy League school than a school like Stetson. Heck, in Florida alone Miami would have more of a shot, I know those Ivy League yuppies probably would love nothing more to take a beach vacation every year to escape the Frost Belt just like the AFC East owners annual trip to Miami.

The Ivies will not be accepting or inviting anyone. Other schools may fit the profile, but the Ivies are in an exclusive club and will never go beyond the current 8. 07-coffee3

I wouldn't say that but no random school like Stetson is suddenly going to upset the balance. I could see the addition of a school but it needs to be a top tier northeastern school, such as NYU (that would make two in Manhattan alone).

I'm not sure why anyone thinks the Ivy League would ever consider expanding. It's the biggest brand in higher education and sports are not why they are the only conference that has name recognition outside the US.

Ivy Leaguers are more likely to discuss kicking some schools out than adding more schools. It's like a whole other level of elitism than the schools that usually get discussed on this board.
