There's def. several schools lacking in basketball facilities in the conference tho.
Coastal's looks nice on the outside not sure about that inside though.
IMO. Top 3 are Troy, UTA USA/ULL
I've seen all of them in person other than your 3 newest members (GS, APP, CC) and honestly there are some really nice arenas in the SBC
1. UTA hands down really nice and if they get a good team and can pack the lower bowl it will be the best homecourt advantage in the Belt
2. Troy would be the perfect size for a SBC arena with a winning program. Don't care for how Troy color coded your seats..basically camouflage so you can't see all the empty seats. Other than that really nice inside and out.
Those two would rank in the top 4 of CUSA also ..I'm bias so Western would be after UTA and a tossup between UNCC and Troy
3. Little Rock (isn't this your new name?) doesn't have the finish look as UTA and Troy but a very good place to watch a game with great sight lines
4. UL-L I believe they are updating the arena...needed it. Back in the day when UL-L was getting 8+ it was a hard place to win in. Today it's way to large and needs downsized and my biggest complaint...need to find a way to bring in the seating closer to the court
5. USA just as with the Cajun Dome, USA had a a great homecourt when they had fans. Unless it's been updated in the last 3 years..it needs it and like UL-L downsized to the 7k range
6. ASU looks a lot nicer from the outside than when you walk into the place. Needs major improvement which I believe is getting done. Again this is a old school arena that needs to be downsized to the 7k range. Had to be the worse lighting in the SBC and if one seat rocks the whole row does. At least it did 5 rows behind the Western bench. Don't worry about that because ASU gives the visiting team the worse seats of any school in the SBC. If you look to the end of the court they give you (at Western pass list) the seats in the bleachers and those are awful seats. I got in free (pass list) but ended up paying $50 for two seats. Partly because of not being able to see from the seats they gave us. But mostly so I could say something to the big old cow of a lady that would fit right in with the "pictures of walmart" usher. Cheif knows who I'm talking about
7. reminds me of a rodeo arena and the seats are way to far from the court. I hope ULM fixed their parking lot because driving through it was like taking a ride on a old wooden roller coaster..my teeth were chattering hitting all the bumps
8. Texas st...THE WALL!!!! I believe you are taking it down and when you do I would move the arena to 6th
9. GST ...there is nothing good you can say about it. My high school that I played in 38 years ago was better and larger. Not only does it have two walls ..one at each end. You cant get from the bottom seats to the upper deck without walking out of the gym (it's a gym not a arena) and for a 3500/4000 seat gym the upper deck seats really sit far from the court
Cajundome is scheduled for about $17.2M in renovation over the next year or so. About $1.2M to clean and reseal the roof and $16M for renovations inside the stadium which includes bringing the lower bowl seating closer to the court. Below is an excerpt from a Daily Advertiser article from early October.
The rubber coating on the roof that protects it from the sun needs to be re-applied every 10 years. It's about three years overdue, allowing mildew and dirt to coat the exterior. That will be removed by pressure washing before the seal is added.
"We would have enjoyed doing this more timely," Davis said.
The roof isn't leaking. It's just not attractive.
Meanwhile, attention is being focused on preparing for $16 million in renovation work inside the Cajundome. Architects have been engaged to get the ball rolling for the major arena upgrade that's expected to start in May.
The Cajundome will be shut down from May through early November of 2016 to accommodate redesign of the first-level lower bowl of the arena, which will allow for more intimate seating at sporting events. It's also going to add 800 to 1,000 seats to the arena, which may help the Cajundome draw additional concerts and other events.
The CajunDome will seat 12,000 when the redesigned renovations are completed next year. This is what it will look like.

We just installed a new floor in the Mitchel Center that looks sharp (finally got rid of the red paint). I can't seem to find the pictures though.

This is right after it was put down. Seats are still retracted so its hard to tell how they relate to the floor.

Found another one, from a distance. My favorite part about the Mitchel Center is all of the NCAA Tournament and Sun Belt Conference Championship banners

We also have the HD LED scorer's table on each side of the court. The scoreboard has 4 HD screens on it. There are also video screens by the hustle boards, but they aren't as good as the 4 on the scoreboard.

I'm trying to date this pic. It's old. We have a new HD LED scorer's table on both sides. We did that a couple years ago. Wachovia Bank no longer exists. They were bought out by Wells Fargo in 2008. Since this pic we have new scorer's table, better video boards on the scoreboards, and have had a couple different floor designs. We really need new pics of our facility out there. I'm guessing this is 2008-2009 season, after having unveiled our new Jag logo.

There's some nice facilities in the SBC.
Southern does need major upgrades (or more likely an entire new facility).
Troy has one of the newest facilities in collegiate sports and they did a phenomenal job.
Troy and Texas-Arlington have obviously raised the bar!
A looked at some of the newer facilities and also liked Towson named SECU Arena.

RE: SBC Basketball Arenas
For those of you thinking Troy's arena is best...
you'll have a change of mind if you go to a UTA game and it's not close when you take everything in...Look, concessions (even if most were closed when I was there) concourse and the seating. UTA gives the look of a bigtime arena ...only on a lot smaller scale
Don't know if it has any affect on shooting but they also open the upper doors on the visiting end of the court during the 2nd half and you could feel the cool air rolling across your body, it was that strong. I was sitting 2 rows behind the Western bench and after halftime it changed to like sitting outside when the wind picks up.

RE: SBC Basketball Arenas
The best way I can describe our place is the American Airlines Center with 10,000 less seats. I used to work in sports radio and covered many a Dallas Maverick and Dallas Stars contest. I am not exaggerating when I say that.
The great thing is that they also know how to make a great game presentation. In our old place, it was a PA guy along with a couple of T shirt cannons. Now...I just can't described the 180. The first game I attended was the new arena opening and I seriously teared up. My Alma Mater was finally making moves. Since we dropped football, we were always competitive in the conference in all-sports, but that seemed about it. Walking in that place for the first time was the first time I felt we took athletics seriously outside the actual athletic department.
I know this is a football-centric league and half the posters on here don't give two farts about basketball, but I would suggest a trip to College Park Center at least once for a fun sports experience and for us to prove what we are capable of when we put our mind to it.
I'd put our facility up against any in the country, P5 or otherwise. I've heard we've even given the Longhorns *****-envy and they are looking to match what we've done.
EDIT: Really, a medical term like ***** gets the asterisks? If I said the more vulgar term of dick, it goes through...

Very few circular arenas look good.
Honestly, I'm surprised when Texas A&M opened Reed Arena in 1998 that UT Austin didn't join the arms race. Maybe as a peer they didn't care, but to be surpassed by "little brother"...

That's because The Frank Erwin Center is multi purpose. It is the major events center in Austin. All the major concerts are there plus stuff like WWE, monster truck rallies, ice skating events and high school graduations. (Used to have an AFL team there also)
Doesn't look so bad from eye level. There isn't a whole lot of room on UT property to build something else, really. It's smack dab in the heart of downtown Austin, along IH35.

Oh, when it is time, UT
will find land for a new arena. Erwin is a 70s structure and completely blasé. And, it contributes nothing to the vitality of the area around it. Reid at A&m is better, but the aggies missed an opportunity to do something special. Reid is architecturally completely uninspiring. Also, it also does not engage its environment. It sits there as an object and adds nothing to the built environment.
