it is a damn shame. Sucks though, because NIU deserves better from the fanbase.

Just a few short years ago, NIU led the league in home attendance.

BTW, the CMU @ WMU attendance seems right.
The stadium appeared 2/3s full (even though it might have seemed 80% by others' eyes).
Stadiums which have bench seating are probably configured 18 - 20" per seat. When the crowd isn't near sellout, folks can easily have 24 or more inches. So a row which is calculated at say 20 seats can look pretty full with < 15.
That is why I always take the 'under' on crowd estimates... Lol.
Nevertheless, the crowd appeared pretty impressive on television.

through 3 home games Ohio's avg attendance is 24,427, or 102% to capacity. Will be interesting to see how steep the drop off is as the weather gets colder.

Speaking of weather, early indications are that it should be sunny across MAC country on Saturday, highs in the 50s.

I guess it does. Must be watching it in E$PN. Some were probably somewhere else watching the Cubs? I don't know. I feel embarrassed for the fanbase, as the team deserves better.

I don't think there's much mystery here. Peden will be only slightly less desolate than any MAC stadium during these TV games. On the plus side, Ohio has sold a lot of season tickets, so a lot of empty seats will be counted as occupied. For actual people in the stands, the best we can hope for is to keep winning and maybe get a bump in student attendance.

RE: Attendance- Week 6
Curious if Toledo keeps winning what their November attendance will be like.
They've had 25k for BGSU on a Weds night before Thanksgiving. I think the NIU game will be close if UT is undefeated and NIU is 5-3.
The Western game could be a tossup after Turkey Day, but if its for a MAC Championship berth and potentially still active for the Access Bowl, I hope that UT could fill it, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Im enjoying each game as they happen this year.

I wish they would put the UT-bgSUCKS game back to the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Those games would have huge student turnout since classes were done before the Thanksgiving break.

RE: Attendance- Week 6
I remember them well. I went to a number of them, both at UT and BGSU. Great November crowds. Would be nice to have that again.

2012's 28,000+ in the Glass Bowl says the game should be in late September to October.

Hard to strike a balance between good weather early on vs drama later on when the game might decide a division championship for one team or the other. Or both.

I think Ohio fairs much better than the rest of the MAC for weekday games because of student attendance. The great thing for the MAC is the camera faces the student side so you see a fairly full stadium.
As for numbers, I think the tickets sold count should still be solid. I have two season tickets and live in Greater Akron. I cannot make the weekday games easily. My two tickets will still count for attendance. I think many people are in this boat coming from Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.

Toledo will still have over 20k for NIU. WMU depends on where we stand.

RE: Attendance- Week 6
I'm at a point where I would perfectly happy with an average NIU attendance of 17,000. A few big games of 20,000 plus here and there, a couple 10,000 stinkers in November......
NIU has worked on improving attendance since the Maryland victory in 2003. A decade later the program is markedly better, if not elite, and there has been no holistic fan growth.
Maybe NIU can buy another team and grow the NIU fan base via acquisition.

Same with Kent State though not quite to the same level. Student support at many games has been good for a bit though once the weather turns foul they then do not come out. For Kent weather and the team's record matter more than the day of the week.
