Guys, Montgomery is going nowhere, it does not matter what happens this season, he will at least be given another year. He has brought in the best class in NIU basketball history. You don't fire someone for bringing in the best class in school history. 2016-17 is the THE year for NIU hoops

I prefer to think of myself as an NIU is better than 40% of D1 basketball teams, not worse than 60% of teams kind of guy.

I'm actually with MD here. Unless they are awful this year, I wouldn't fire him.

While I think Highsmith could be back for conference, I am not counting on him at all this year. I was counting on Darell Bowie to be a All-MAC performer. Monty said during Monday's Coaches show, he may have to play thru pain, he may only be 90% this year. That means 75-80%. They need a healthy Bowie or they won't win 13-games. If that happens, I do not like Monty's chances of sticking around. Great recruiting class or not.

A likely down year for the mac (and, that's saying something) and a potentially up year for NIU (that's really saying something).

No matter Bowie or anyone...This team best have a winning record...and, I believe, will.

This is Monty's year to prove himself up or down. It's a bit defining.

Hey 222 or anyone, is Marshawn Wilson going to be eligible to play this year?

Why wouldn't Wilson be eligible this year?

I am going to guess he is playing and after about 3-4 games is starting this year.

Marshawn Wilson is a more athletic Dontel Highsmith type of player.

If NIU keeps the Key-Wilson-Porter trio together through senior year, NIU will be guaranteed 1 MAC championship in those 4 years, not a doubt in my mind.

NIU was able to finish around 180 last season even though below .500 last season largely due to a pretty tough non-conf schedule and the fact the MAC ended up being one of the best mid major conferences in the nation. This year though, with that brutally easy out of conference schedule combined with what will inevitably be at least a slightly weaker MAC, a similar record this year would probably yield results around 200-240 for final ranking.

For the start of this season to be classified as a success I think NIU at least needs to be 9-4 in non-conf play, with anywhere from 7 to 8 wins being acceptable. Anything lower than 7, is a failure though.

With the OOC schedule they have, I agree. There's really only a couple games that they wouldn't have a great chance of winning.
