Bearcat basketball is underrated every season. At some point it starts to hurt the program when the media refuses to acknowledge the Bearcats. Yes, I know they have UC ranked at 25 but other teams with far bigger issues and players with less talent always seem to get the spotlight.

UConn (20-15 last season and no NCAA appearance) is # 16 because "there's too much talent in the program".

I saw that yesterday. Not unexpected because we don't have a go to guy and have a true team approache and balanced offense. I could see someone like Caupain or Ellis sneaking on later in the season if they revisit the list, but I still think we will see a lot of balanced scoring, which I think is a plus. They just need to figure out the go to guy when you must have a score.

There probably isn't much difference between the teams at 10-25.

The key is getting UC from that 17 to 40 category and into the top 16. Sweet 16 runs, top four seeds, and everything else that comes with it is next step the program has to take. The last five years UC has roughly occupied that 17 to 40 space. Yes, there was a sweet 16 run from a six seed and a conference championship season with SK but I am still looking for that one season where the regular season and post season come together like it did 1992, 1993, and 1996. Overall the coaching staff has done a wonderful job. I could only imagine what a new arena and a few nice tournament runs could do to the national perception of the program.

I'm always an optimist when it comes to my team but I believe it's coming. Recruiting has definitely picked up in recent years. No big time scores at the 3? Enter Jacob Evans. No big time 2 guard after SK? Enter Cumberland.

If we renovate 5/3 I'm convinced were going to be a top program just like the 90's. Love this staff and the type of kids they recruit.

Great stat from the article ... “Cincinnati has won 42 straight games when scoring at least 60 points.”

Agree with everything you wrote. The Bearcats need a breakout season to reinforce the fine work that's been done in rebuilding. Mick seems to get a lot of love and respect from national commentators but sadly, it hasn't translated into national preseason exposure. Bet we couldn't name another major program that's made five straight NCAA Tourneys and likely won't reach every preseason top 25 we see over the next few weeks. Here's hoping this is the season when that all changes.

Personally, I'd rather start at 25 than unranked. So, I'm good with this.

Just win. The rankings will take care of themselves.

Completely agree. As long as you're on the collective consciousness of the voters its all good.

It's much harder to rise out of obscurity, and even then the margin of error is slim. Simply having a ranking and winning some early games will likely keep you ranked later...i.e. losses late in the year don't seem to kill teams that have been ranked for several weeks. Conversely, if you work your tail off for five weeks just to get ranked then happen to drop a game, you get killed for it and lose all your votes.

That stat in our snippet is absolutely bonkers...

Quote:...Cincinnati has won 42 straight games when scoring at least 60 points

Just goes to show both how good we are defensively, and that 60 points is a high scoring threshold for our offense 03-lmfao

Hmmm......we don't have any player worthy of top 100 mention. Where's the injustice here?

Also, I'm not sure why we're concerned about preseason rankings. This is UC hoops. Wake me up when we get the the postseason and do something that makes the nation recognize us.

I don't think it's unfair that we're not taken overly seriously. We haven't made any noise in quite a long time.

This ^^

One of the greatest things about college hoops is that if you are reasonably good you will get a chance in March to show the world what you can do. Yes it's easier from a 1 - 4 seed but at least the opportunity is there so that you have some margin for error and growth throughout the season.
