Wow! New show on the History Channel with a guy from the U.S. Marshal's concludes the Anglin Brothers did escape and survive the swim across San Francisco Bay, and lived out their lives free.

I froze my bum off on the ferry to the island. In July!
One of the coolest tours I have ever taken.

RE: Alcatraz
We used to toodle over to Alcatraz and to Angel Island in sail boats (no motor backup). Very choppy and very cold and windy even on sunny days and you gotta sail across the big ship channel of the Bay. Fog can be treacherous.

I used to hang out with trimaran owners--had one of my own for about a month till I figured out how much upkeep there was. Plus I didn't know how to sail. lol

Anyone who survived that swim lived a miracle. I think there was a famous person who pulled a barge with his teeth.... while swimming it. lol

Yeah, until last night everybody thought they died in the water, the police, Marshal's service, everybody. Only the family members believed they survived. The Marshal on the show was shocked that the evidence was conclusive they lived through it and got away.

That must be what generated the article I read on the internet the other day, wondering if it possible that either of them might still be alive.

The retired Marshal who conducted the investigation said it's a conclusive as you can get without a body that they were still alive in 1975, when a purported photo was taken that an expert photo interpreter used by the government said was almost 100% them. Also, remains found in the bay that were supposed to be theirs were not a DNA match.

No way they both swam that far in that water. No. Way. It's killer. There had to be a boat. That's my final answer. 02-13-banana

unless they had scuba gear. way back then?

It is even harder to fathom they would be able to swim that far without being able to swim/exercise while in prison. If you haven't swam in a while, that is one hell of a cardio shock.

I will have to watch that episode.

It's fascinating. The Marshal who hosted it and did the investigations was a skeptic who thought they died in the water.
