South Carolina head coaching job is open!
This is the kind of job opening that we should be worried about. It's in the SEC East so it's a little easier than the SEC West and it would be a huge move up for Fuente.

There is also ALOT of money to be had at USC. The university just raised over a billion dollars in donations in a recent campaign, and USC pays stipends. I attend USC. Firstly, I pray to every diety in the universe Justin Fuente is going to remain in Memphis. Secondly, it is a team ripe for a coach like Fuente and it scares me a bit.

Not at all. I will be VERY HAPPY for Fuente if he is ready to move on. He did more here in the last few years than any other coach in the last 20 years. I can live with that. The good news is, if he does leave we are loaded for the next few years with a new coach. I would love to see Clay Helton come back if this did happen and he did not get offered the head coaching job at USC (which I don't think he will stand a chance at getting). I just hope when or if the day comes that Fuente does move on, I hope it's for a GREAT job and not just any job in a P-5 conference. With that said, South Carolina is a GREAT JOB that someone like Fuente could win big at in no time at all.

I hate to hear this because he was always interesting to listen to, especially when he would dig utk and Fulmer.

I think JF takes the SC job, if offered. He will earn more money and join the flagship state school in the best football conference in America.

It's an ok job, not a slam dunk necessarily. A job like, say, Wisconsin or Texas would be much more worrisome. Do you really want to follow Spurrier at SC when they're down and play in the SEC?

Spurrier on the tail end of his coaching career had three straight 11 games wining seasons at SC. JF could push SC to the next level.

Wisconsin? Fuente doesn't strike me as someone who would want to be a puppet for want to be coach AD Barry Alvares.

SC is a traditional 4th place finisher in the SEC-e & SC usually plays 2nd fiddle to Clemson just within the state of SC, UGA is less than 100 miles away. Not the kind of job, Fuente would want, IMO

If you're looking for something to worry about, think Georgia. Probably lose 3 more games. Richt has been there since 2000. He was oc at fsu when they hired him.
If South Carolina makes a wow hire, Georgia will want to open up the purse and hire someone who can put lots of points on the board.

Just for y'all nervous nellies out there

Been saying that to friends and family since his debacle in Knoxville Saturday. No coach in college football does less with more than Richt. If it happened, in no way shape or form could any Memphis fan be angry at Fuente. He's built the foundation for a strong program here and if guys like Helton or Odom aren't P5 head coaches, we have some strong ties to some good coaches.

If JF leaves, he leaves. The last coaching search we had 2 finalists - 1 is now the head coach of a top 10 Florida team and JF has us in the top 25. I'm not worried about any coaching searches that the U of M AD may or may not have to do.

I think Fuente waits for the right opportunity. He has it made in the shade right now at Memphis. Now if Texas, Okie, or another traditional power house comes available (in the south) Look Out!

Fascinating that you're ready to let Fuente go but want to keep Pastner at all costs. Tells me so much.

I find your post interesting and (although completely inaccurate) I encourage - if you wish - similar type posts.
