This sign was my fav. It had a picture of Corso in Madison garb from two years ago along side a text book picture of Madison.

LEE CORSO AND JAMES MADISON

WERE FRESHMEN ROOMATES!

College Gameday at JMU?
Girls don't wear pants or bras anymore. I am so glad I don't have a daughter, I'd lose my mind.

Also got a chance to meet and talk to Lee Fitting. He had a tailgate setup a few cars down from us in Godwin.

Before JMU was chosen, there was a lot of talk on here about Herbstreit calling the ABC games and if the ABC game being at USC would hurt our chances. Turns out, Herbstreit ended up calling a game at Alabama on ESPN. Someone else called the USC game. I wonder if that was decided before or after the Gameday decision.

FWIW, I spoke directly with one of the main ESPN producers right after "James Madison" walked on stage. Apparently Jordan Spieth was lined up for the Red River Rivalry (Texas connection). When they decided on JMU, he bailed.

RE: College Gameday at JMU?
I was at the full show in 2015 and yesterday. Some thoughts:

The crowd was definitely larger this year, but I thought it lacked the energy of the 2015 show.

Unless you were standing very close to the front, you couldn't hear the audio. I don't remember that being the case in 2015. Perhaps that had something to do with the energy since you couldn't really tell what was going on in the show.

I don't remember there being nearly as many drunk students in 2015. We arrived around 8:45am yesterday and numerous kids were feeling no pain. I saw many leaving late in the show requiring some assistance to remain vertical.

I echo the sentiments about the girls. I don't recall seeing so many scantily clad girls. Some friends who hadn't been to JMU in some time couldn't believe it. Our high school age daughter was planning to come but backed out Friday night. I'm really glad she did!

The signs were great. I think there were more of them and they were good. We even brought one which I thought I'd never do. We left it in the library for Special Collections. Hopefully they'll post pics of ones they collected.

I can't believe they couldn't do better with the guest picker. We were standing up by Wilson hall right by the aisle that was created for the picker to walk to the stage, and no one had any idea who was playing the part.

All in all, I think both shows showed what great enthusiasm we have for the school and JMU football. It's going to be hard for GameDay to find as good a crowd anywhere else.

Did anyone on here go down to Tech's GameDay? My bud's 16 year old went with his mother to Tech's and had also attended ours in 2015. He told my bud that Tech's had more people than we did in 2015. I question if that was the case and wondered if anyone could give some perspective.

Daughter is a JMU junior, & I asked her if it was TrampDay in addition to GameDay. Guess my wife & I raised her right, as she wore a T- shirt straight up, & not cut up or reduced by 50-75%.

RE: College Gameday at JMU?
My wife and I were wondering about the state of attire (or lack thereof) on some of the young ladies. My younger daughter (2015) who was also there with us was appalled to say the least. Also the the number of drunk people at 8:45 AM was kinda sad. Now I am old and somewhat of a curmudgeon so my views may be a tad outdated so whatever.

All being said had a great time. Glad ESPN decided to come to JMU again and that we got up early and arrived in time for the fun!!

Game was great also!!

RE: College Gameday at JMU?
Just caught up with this thread for the first time since Thursday evening, what an awesome weekend. Each day's crowd definitely topped 2015's. Saturday I got out there around 5:30 and got a better spot than I did around the same time in 2015 which was weird cause I'd say there were more people already but more spread out for some reason. Corso seemed excited to be back and came out holding up the JMU helmet for us to cheer, Villanova helmet for us to boo, and then kept going back and forth.

A few negatives, but not too big of a deal... Like others have said, that huge Sigma Nu banner sucked. All the students around me were pretty pissed about it too as soon as it went up, talking about how selfish it was and ruining a great shot. Guest picker was disappointing, but oh well. It's crazy that they haven't gotten Charles Haley either time. You would think ESPN would be all about it and you'd think he would too. He's a HOFer and five time Super Bowl champion, and the man named his daughter Madison!

Also the game atmosphere didn't have the amazing "Holy s**t we got College GameDay, let's go effing nuts!" feel to it that last time did. But I guess maybe that also has some to do with not having the hate for Villanova that we do for Richmond.

Overall, another amazing College GameDay weekend. I'd love to have a third, hopefully they give us a chance to top ourselves again next year.

Oh, PS... I saw nothing extreme or unusual about the way girls were dressed. How old are you guys?!?!03-lmfao

I am sure if it was homecoming it would have been extremely crazy like the Richmond game. So Gameday in the next 2-3 years again? Let's not have it next year because I am sure it will not have the same craziness as before.

I'd echo pretty much exactly what everyone else was saying.

They seriously need to do something about the speaker situation. We weren't even that far behind the pit and we still couldn't hear a single thing. They should be able to at least put some speakers toward the middle and back while leaving space to not get feedback/echos. People definitely lost interest and were just spectating from afar...not participating. Also, there needs to be a max sign size next time. That Sigma Nu sign was stupid blocking so many people AND Wilson.

RE: College Gameday at JMU?
I'll echo the Sigma Nu hate (any pr is good pr?!) Sounds like most people really don't like you right now, good luck with that.

Went both times and crowd w seemed substantially bigger this time.

Now I sound/feel really old but the fashion in general was terrible. When did the crappy 80's come back why did they hit everything with a lawn mower before they got here. What was equally disappointing, although I'm probably in the minority, was the signs on the frat houses in town. If I were the parent of a HS girl I'd feel very uncomfortable sending her here, although probably anywhere else as well, after seeing the signs in front of the houses.

I don't remember the DJ last year but I thought that was a great addition.

I remember being able to hear the show last year and could not hear it this year, that was disappointing.

Why, if we own a T-shirt cannon is it not brought to every event that has a crowd? They could have set it up at the forbes tunnel and hit the steps of wilson with!

Oh well, overall another amazing experience and this time the actual game was not a let down!

I'll echo the girls clothing sentiment - my wife and I are both 2006 college grads and were shocked by how little everyone was wearing. It was cold out in the morning too.

Does this make me crotchety?

I said the same thing. Most women I know have to have at least a thin jacket if the temperature drops below 70. I guess the liquid heat was keeping them warm because it definitely wasn't their outfits.

It was kind of sad to see so many people barely able to stand at 9:00 am.

Ditto on the clothing. When I finally found my daughter and she was wearing jeans and a whole shirt, I felt a lot more at ease. Although, I did ask if she had a moth infestation in her apartment because of the holes.

Overall, we had a fantastic day. When she chose JMU, we really didn't know much about the university nor its history. I certainly wasn't expecting that she would get to experience things like this. Awesome job by all who pulled off a great series of events.
