Great publicity. Also the question of whether AAC can get a team in playoff is starting to come up.

Good article.

At the very least, I would like to see the conference get some better bowl tie-ins. All these bowl games against the MAC, SBC and C-USA is for the birds. Not only have AAC teams been competitive with P5 schools, they have garnered good TV ratings.

Very true. The sad thing about a handful of AAC teams this year is that they will not get a proper bowl for their efforts.

Can we please sticky a thread where everybody can whine about our crappy bowls? We are almost 2 years in now. Please. Give it a rest.

Multi year effort. If we keep getting attention, and CRUSH our bowl opponents (while bringing crowds), then everything will fall into place. I think we have positioned ourselves as "the best of the rest," now we need to consistently do that until we are seen "as good as" some of the big boy conferences.

This year we have the potential to be better, top to bottom, than the ACC.

Just win!

Well this is the exact type of year where this horrible bowl lineup really hurts. You have 4 excellent football teams at the top of the league and then 2 in Cincy and ECU that are very solid. Navy is locked into the Military Bowl this year so there's only one other bowl tie in with a P5 team. So there are going to be several teams with really good records at the end of the year, maybe even ranked in the top 25, that will be playing in pure dog bowl games. That flat out stinks.

Yea, and thats the exact point I was making. I wasnt bitching about the bowls. I was just saying this could end up sucking for some teams that could be ranked in the top 25 at the end of the year, and to see the bowls they end up getting. They would not come close to matching the quality of their efforts. Not even close. And thats unfortunate.

Aresco nails it again with his public comments/observations. It's been nearly three years now (27 Nov 2012) since Tulane was invited to join Aresco's league. In all that time, I'm sure he's made a few verbal blunders here and there. But not many, and I honestly can't remember any of them.

Temple, Memphis, Houston look great.

However, Conference revenue will keep us in the G5

Just my opinion for what it is worth. The American stands a top of the G5 world. Only BYU and Boise are your equal in the G5 world. I think either the American will become the 6th Power Conference or it will be raided by the P5. If raided look for Pool:

Central Florida
Cincinnati
Connecticut
East Carolina
Houston
Memphis
South Florida
Temple

The only other choices are BYU and Boise. 07-coffee3

Once the bottom half of the league starts to do a little bit better I think we'll start to see some serious progress. We have 4-6 teams that are already playing at a very high level.

Tulane - if it hires the right AD - could become another piece of the puzzle. I think that success elsewhere in the AAC should/could(?) inspire our new AD. We're a giant waste of potential right now.

SMU just started the healing process and has a lot to work through, but I think they could actually get there.

Tulsa is a little further along in that rebuild process.

UCF is the "down" AAC team this year, but they've earned an off season with the damage they've already done in football.

Our conference revenue is significantly more than any of the other G4. If we monopolize the access bowl, then we ensure the divide between us and the G4 remains in place.

We're nowhere near P5 money, but we arent G4 poor either. I believe we are seeing the results of spending like we are better than the G4 as well this year.

RE: More good press from ESPN.
Our bowl lineup isn’t great but the narrative after this season will hopefully be about the AAC champ who got the G5 access bowl slot and dominated the game, a la UCF 2013, and about how that champ really should have been in the discussion for the playoff. Then hopefully Navy handles business in the Military bowl and the upper teams that don’t make it the access bowl stomp mud holes in their G5 opponents. We just have to make the best out of the situation we’re in.

Yeah, but we've had 2 or 3 years to ***** about it already. Isn't that enough? It's not like anybody TRIED to get us the worst bowls possible.

This is the same issue as our crappy TV contract. We didn't get paid more b/c the market wouldn't pay it. Our problem is that we have no marquee football names, like Alabama, Ohio State, etc.

Until we get some of those, our TV money will be relative "crap," and so will our bowl games.

Not only that, look around at the other G5 bowls. It could be worse.

And this is supposed to be a happy thread, not another excuse for a bitchfest.

I don't know about ucf - a down year is one thing, and I agree that our schools all have them, but ucf could go "oh fer" - that's way beyond a down year

If our thin O line holds up, I like our chances finishing undefeated... I'm confident b/c most games will be here in Houston, our house.
