I'd imagine he will be more focused in practice knowing how little drop off there is to Hayden Moore.

RE: Injury Update
It's well known Gunner is not a "practice" player, maybe the competition with Moore will force him to focus during practice. Makes me wonder how focused he was at the start of the season - with all of the mistakes he made through the first 3 1/4 games - if that lack of focus during practice carried over to the games. Should be interesting.

Tuberville #UC QB update: Says Kiel and Moore still 'pretty even.' Won't announce starter before Fri. game at BYU.

RE: Injury Update
As I have said for weeks, scale back the offense / simplify things for Kiel like they have Moore and he'll look really good out there IMO. Absolutely no need to run a complex passing game with all the talent they have at WR. They should be able to out-talent every defensive backfield they face.

Tuberville on how Kiel is taking the situation at QB: 'Not very well. And he shouldn't. He's very competitive, wants to be the starter.'

Agreed. I hope we see the Int's start to diminish. Even Temple, who has a bunch of upper classmen running complex Defense, we went up and down the field on them.

I agree. There isn't anyone on the schedule that have DB's that come close to being able to matchup with our WR's. Miami probably had the closest from a talent standpoint. After that I don't think anyone comes even remotely close.

Houston has a couple of good DBs, NFL types, but across the board they can't cover everyone lol, especially if we run the ball.

RE: Injury Update
This may not be the right thread for this, but just a thought... and I could be way out there on this one. Could the higher complexity offense Tubbs has allowed with Kiel be a way to showcase Kiel's abilities for an Gunner's (hopefully) eventual move to the NFL? Or at least a start to helping Gunner build a draft resume'?

UC has had a few QBs/WRs that were very successful here but have failed to translate well to the NFL. Several times the phrase was tossed out that they were "system players" and struggled to handle NFL level system complexity, reads and/or defenses. Just thought that maybe part of Tubbs' long range plan for Kiel was to show/train him to be more ready for the next level and less of a system QB as long as it was not being detrimental to the overall performance of the offense.

Obviously Kiel is a more mature, experienced QB than Hayden and I'm sure that plays a part as well -- as does the fact that the more complex an offense is (in general) the more difficult it is to prepare for -- but I wonder if Tubbs is trying to maintain/improve recruiting prospects in the upcoming years by landing Kiel and possibly a WR or two in the NFL.

RE: Injury Update
Cal, I think Tubs is relying on Gran to run the offense and Hinshaw/Rolan know their players pretty well.
Tubs will want to make sure we run the ball effectivley, especially when Gunner started seeing so much cover 2
taking away vertical routes. They just want to win. The Scouts will find you if you are good enough, usually.

RE: Injury Update
Yeah, I don't think it's anything "systematic". Every situation is different. At WR and QB, some of our most productive have been on the smaller side which the NFL tends to shun (often unfairly/unwisely imo) even though we've seen quite a few of the relatively ignored from other schools eventually breakout especially at WR (Welker, Hawkins, Edelman, Antonio Brown, etc.). Often it's about getting a good or bad break. At QB, Pike had the size but was derailed in large part due to arm injuries.

If that's what he's doing, its a mistake. He's being paid to win here. He should put players and the team in position to win now, not get Gunner or anyone else drafted. If they're good enough, they'll get drafted.

What is so complex?
