RE: Time for a New Stadium
Dear Luckeyone,
Very easily, because they almost all had new stadiums built in the last thirty years or so, and secondly, many schools have dropped track as a scholarship sport, so there is no need for a track. I mentioned in another thread, at the time Rynearson was built, over forty-five years ago, stadiums were being built as a dual facility for both football and track. Personally, from what I said in my above response it doesn't bother me. Again, let's get our football team on a winning track, and then the discussions will be about football, not aesthetics.

Do you really want temporary bleachers? Talk about high school look, that is what you will get. Placing the scoreboard where the players come out of their locker room? I totally disagree with that look at William and Mary. Why is there this fixation on the track? We have great track teams, sponsor track meets, and need the track. I think some of us are brainwashed into thinking it makes the stadium terrible. Are we there to watch the event taking place, or just fixate on the track. What's the old saying, "Can't see the forest because of the trees".

Ken, with all due respect, sitting closer to the action is undeniably a better experience. It may even help the team as well. Sitting at Rynearson is similar to sitting in the upper deck at Comerica Park - too far from the action. I like the idea of putting the band at one end and the students at the other end (we got a glimpse of what that might look like when EMU scored a TD just before halftime with several student athletes behind the end zone).

Portable bleachers can be removed for the track season.

BTW, I used William and Mary as an example because I saw a few minutes of their game while channel surfing yesterday. Looked fine to me.

I agree with Nickle.

Those portable bleachers won't hold many fans (which is good).

Maybe even split the band between the two sets of end zone bleachers (although that may seem 'weird' having half of band in one end zone and the other half in the other end zone).

If the band moves to on-field seating, I'd maybe not use section 101 and have students starting in 102 (maybe block out section 101).

Gentlemen,
Even if you take out the track, and put in its place permanent seating, you are only talking about maybe 1,000 seats, if that. Everyone else will be sitting where they were originally, so how are those seats closer to the action? I think this is what everyone is missing in this discussion.

Ken, I agree with you and have made a similar point.

Matter of fact would someone rather sit in row 15 at Rynearson or row 75 at the Big House (of course, the football is better, but more expensive, more difficult parking, etc.)?

It is really a case of optics.

Nickle, etc. are talking about ways of improving the general ambience of the stadium.

There are additional tweaks which could be done.

RE: Time for a New Stadium
And this topic keeps going and going and going.......I'm starting to question the mental health of the people on this forum; including my own. We aren't getting a new stadium, Super is suing everyone for better and more comfortable seating, we don't like the track, we want to spend 100 million on a stadium for 3,000 fans. We need to put students/band in an end zone, have any of you people ever sat in the end zone? I have it sucks to watch football from an end zone. The stadium is empty, and your going to tell students to go sit in a terrible end zone with a terrible view. I swear, this might be the most ludicrous website on the entire internet. Whats next, maybe we should change the mascot again, or perhaps we should discuss other things that won't happen. I know, how about we re-hire Ron English to be the defensive coordinator, Jeff Genyk to run the offense, and keep Creighton as head coach. Also, we can explore bringing back Earl Boykins as the head basketball coach.

Well it gets close to going over the edge sometimes. Most of the posters are avid fans of EMU sports and some are just frustrated over football which I can completely understand. I would concentrate on keeping the football program alive before even thinking about pouring new money into improvements or a new stadium. I'm all for whatever dollars are needed to maintain the current stadium. Most of the talk about a new stadium is a pipe dream.

Sure threads get crazy with a bunch of pipe dreams, agendas, etc. etc.

That said, 'Nickle did a VERY NICE JOB with the photo of W&M's stadium.

I assume the only reason they have on-field seating is because the game was at capacity. Not likely to happen at EMU. (we all know that).

HOWEVER, the idea of placing the scoreboard inside the track is worthy of consideration.

P.S. Aren't we going to get new lights and a scoreboard maybe next year?

There are a few good ideas in this thread...

It's too bad we don't live in a magic world where we could have snapped our fingers and replaced Rynearson with the Silverdome.

So, I say I'm not a fan of Murphy's basketball style (completely valid opinion, BTW) and now I'm anti-EMU? Good God this board is awful.
