Is Uconn just gonna make everyone a rival? Besides, nobody in NYC cares about CFB
The UCONN guy above said he'd rather a rivalry game with Temple or Cincy. I'm just posing a question. I do think the emergence of rivalries will be good for the conference, though I'm undecided on manufacturing them. UConn Temple, UCF USF, UH SMU seem to be geographically probable.
The problem with Temple historically is that they had no fan support. It's hard to have rivals like that. Hopefully, they've started turning that corner. Rutgers, Cuse, and BC all brought visitors and vice versa.

I look at UConn as a serious rival already,no trophy needed.

Here is something very weird that most people just don't realize.
A UConn women's bball game with a 4 rating in NYC gets more NYC fans to watch than a UK or Louisville men's bball game with a 44 rating in Kentucky.
The NYC DMA is massive. It incorporates 1/3rd of the state of Conn., and if you get people with a lot of extra $$ in disposable income to pay $1 a month for it, then you are swimming in money.
People tend to ignore this area because of the very low ratings, and they tout Brimingham, Ala. for the opposite reason, but there's a lot of money to be made in NYC.
The B1G has figured this out. When you look at the fact that it has the richest payout, you scratch your head at the stupidity of the ACC, etc.

I said that NYC doesn't care about CFB. What does that have to do with a Uconn women's basketball game? CBB traditionally does very well in NYC, but we arent talking about that.

NYC likes winners if you don't win they don't care. Thus why Uconn and the Big East was so popular there. They were big time teams national titles won and lost. If uconn or rutgers ever were ranked and played it would get big time buzz in nyc. Plus if your Jaguar and looking to sell some Jags and want to get to the people that may buy them with commercials. Where do you think that would be.... NYC (CT's golden coastline included) or Ala?

Maybe they'll donate it to EMU's dumpster fire athletic department.
Seriously HuskyU? I wasn't sure if UCF was gonna or is going to take this rivalry serious, wasn't an attack or diss on UConn, I know very well what its like to be ignored by a school you consider a rival and play a rivalry series with.

RE: How is UCONN not completely embarassed by this?
As weird as the set-up for this trophy was, it kind of works now. This may never end up really being a rivalry, but the best trophies are either things with stories or just cool random items. The fully planned out ones now are generally boring ones that just don't do too much to make the games more exciting. The Freedom Trophy (Nebraska-Wisconsin), the Hero's Trophy (Iowa-Nebraska), and the Land Grant Trophy (Michigan State-Penn State) are all fairly boring and add little even if the games between those schools are sometimes good.
This trophy though at least has a decent story. Even if a rivalry doesn't take off, if the two play in 50 years, people will still be telling the story about how UConn's old coach just decided to create this trophy and didn't ask the other team. That's at least interesting and sadly that's all it takes to beat most the modern attempts to create a trophy.
