Having "ODU" vs. "Old Dominion" on the jerseys has to save weight, right? That should allow the guys to jump a tiny bit higher and get a tiny bit less fatigued. (Just kidding, just kidding.)

I cringe when I hear others use the term ODU. Recently Tim Brandt, not one of my favorite college football announcers, struggled to get the initials out of his mouth during pre game football discussions. The way he introduced us with the ODU moniker made me feel like the intent was that we didn't belong in the discussion of D1 football. Watching us in post season basketball playoffs where the scoreboard consistently lists us as just ODU causes me to wonder if those who we are trying to educate about our brand ask themselves who and what is an ODU.

We are Old Dominion University. Rick Kiefner has it right.
Old Dominion, no problem. Old Dominion University? unnecessary, repetitive and nerve grating

We both agree with elimination of the references to the letters ODU. I'm fine with the words Old Dominion on our jerseys. I do think that the addition of the word University when speaking in public about our school is preferable though. I also like the idea of having the words Norfolk, Virginia on one of the ends of our basketball court.

If you buy an ODU hat from the bookstore do you pick the one that says A) Old Dominion University or B) ODU/logo.

university courts should not have the city, state. That is for civic centers and convention centers

I have bought 5 hats in my time... One with the ODU crown logo, one with the full logo lion and all, a Hurley hat that had the ODU crown logo on the side and HURLEY on the front, a snapback that said "Old Dominion" in small letters with a large "MONARCHS" under it and the crown logo on the side, and lastly a gray/blue OD baseball cap. Just a little bit of everything haha

I know the question wasn't directed towards me but I thought I'd add my two cents lolol

Variety is the spice of life.

Just wondering...of those who graduated from Old Dominion University, would you prefer that your diploma have just the letters ODU on it? William and Mary would not look right with W&M either.

Just saying...

I can't answer your question as I don't have a degree from ODU, however IMO there is no comparison between the level of formality of a diploma issued by a university and a piece of apparel, even a uniform worn by a student athlete during competition.

That is a different debate entirely. My diploma says Old Dominion University as it should. A jersey from one of our athletic teams does not need all that. A simple block ODU or the chef hat logo is fine on the basketball jerseys. Baseball looks sharp with the interlocking OD. I liked football better when they didn't have Old Dominion on the jerseys. It was a much cleaner look. What I'm saying is we don't have to spell out the entire name of the school to get across the point of who we are. People know who we are and if they don't they will learn soon enough when we beat them.

I bought a lot of the Old Dominion University old school white hats but they got hard to clean. I now like to go with the blue Alumni Old Dominion University hat with the lion logo on the back from the basketball court. I really like this hat and im ready to purchase two more.
