There is no question that the culture of self-victimization is a scourge on this nation. We should not change institutions based on the interpretations of symbols buy a small minority of people. The ACLU made that famous in the 70s and I think they created as many problems as they solved.

The problem from where I sit - decidedly in the center - is the right wing whack jobs have become just as guilty of it as were the bleeding heart lefties. Hell, Fox has built a media empire by convincing mostly heterosexual white Christian men that they are under fire from everyone else and are thus the real victims in all of this marginalization.

That is such an amazingly idiotic point of view it is almost difficult to even type. However, millions upon millions of people believe it – because they want to believe it. That is much easier than looking ourselves in the mirror and facing difficult realities.

Everything is a "War on…" now, just like to the Liberals every single scandal is something "gate."

We got wars on Christmas and wars on white people and wars on political correctness and wars on everything that people don't agree on.

Unfortunately, the only real war that has been going on how's been a war on common sense and civility.

It's much easier just to caricature people than it is to have an actual discussion on a matter where you would risk learning something and growing. Now, any sign of growth is seen as compromising one's principles and that is a sign of weakness, which cannot ever be tolerated. Think about how crazy that mentality is but we fall prey to it all the time. It runs exactly counter to the ideals and principles upon which this nation was built. That is why we have three branches of government – to marginalize the hardheaded ideologues who see compromise as their enemy. Compromise is what makes America special, even when it's a compromise that we don't necessarily agree with.

Therefore people on both sides of the political divide will regularly entrench themselves in positions that are objectively stupid so as to not sell out to the "evil people" (who probably agree with them on 90% of the other issues out there) on the other side of whatever inane debate is happening at that moment.

I have no idea whether or not Georgia Tech should change a word, a single word, in it's fight song? That is up to the Georgia Tech fans and administration to decide such a serious issue.

However, I do know that this issue has absolutely nothing to do with the downfall of society. It is not yet another blow to the once proud American tradition of marginalizing everyone who wasn't a heterosexual Christian white male. It is just a simple word that reflects the realities of the 21st-century, not up the made up nostalgia of yesteryear.
