Defense
Obviously EMU needs a major improvement with defense if they ever expect to win games. Time for CC to do a full evaluation of the coaching staff and players. Something needs to change significantly. It's going to take a lot more than getting Harris and POC back.

RE: Defense
So far from our 11 verbals none highly rated I wonder where the difference makers on defense will come from next year?

I have a separate thread on the defensive coordinator, maybe its time for a new defensive scheme, is there such a thing as tackling specialist?

Indeed. We have for almost all years in recent years been bad (very bad or terrible) on defense and I don't see anything to change that...

Wasn't our one decent year when we had a NFL coach handling the defense (2011 - 211 points) and he left (2013) and our defense went south.
Big time.

He is at Temple and they are undefeated this year... Very impressive defense...

We need a Phil Snow + some impact recruits. 03-cloud9

****************

"Snow orchestrated a major turnaround during the 2011 campaign, ranking 35th nationally and third in the MAC in total defense. The Eagles gave up 350.3 yards per game, an improvement of 103.8 yards per contest. In 12 games, the Eagles’ defense allowed just 292 points for a total of 24.3 points per game. The last EMU squad to accomplish the feat was the 1994 team which gave up 275 points through its 11 contests. " From Temple website.

RE: Defense
Realistically, the impact players on defense are going to have to be 'developed' from the 2 star recruits, or brought in via the Juco ranks.

A serious DC and scheme evaluation is needed at year end as well. The MAC often has to find those 'diamond in the rough' coaches, and let them develop, just like it's best players. Dino Babers at BG, Fleck at Western, etc, etc, etc.

MAC beggars can't be choosers.....especially at EMU.
