Welcome to 2015

You should probably inform the school then. They advertised it as Memphis Madness/Fanfest.

Tiger fans doing a lot of spinning today.

I don't have kids, don't want autographs, and have no interest in photos with pouncer...

This was advertised around town as fanfest...Midnight Madness/Memphis Madness is done for now...Id like to see it come back in a more traditional way.

Hold it at the fieldhouse...'charge' a can of something to be donated to the food bank...have a scrimmage, dunk contest, and some autographs at the end.

No rappers at FedExForum...just students and fans on campus.

So even though I posted a link from the schools website, calling it Memphis Madness Fanfest, you are still saying it doesn't exist anymore. 03-lmfao

Like I said. Lots of spinning. And I didn't know there were only 500 people in Memphis with kids. LOL.

UAB had 7500 people at their preseason event. No rappers either. Just people out to see the basketball team. Maybe one day Memphis can be like UAB.

Yeah, Memphis Madness never had '/fanfest' put on the end of it...and it's sure never been held in the afternoon before.

A quick glance at the CA even shows the headline: 'Small crowd, more interaction at newly formatted Memphis Madness FanFest'

If you want to think you're on to some great conspiracy, go for it...but this is for kids to get autographs and take a picture with pouncer.

Unfortunately the midnight madness concept is dead here, and the only person who asked me if I was going said 'hey, are you going to fanfest?' I rolled my eyes...

Moreover, as I said, a simple event at the 2500 seat Fieldhouse with a scrimmage would be fine...

So only 500 people showing up is perfectly acceptable and not a sign of problems in the program. I stand corrected. You can move on now.

I agree.

The funny thing is the rumor is that the target coach for Pastner is Pearl . Already working on raising $$$$ for both buyouts

They want to hire a former UT coach that they hated when he was at UT? That would be like UAB hiring Mark Gottfried. 03-puke

Of course Pastner is on the hot seat. Actually it's way beyond that. He will be gone after this year, win or lose. Hopefully it's winning so some other school will pick up his contract. But even if the team craters, he will be bought out and gone. SMU would be perfect--the school needs to lay low for awhile and not make any noise, so Pastner's their man.

As far as the poster who heard "rumors" that Pearl was being sought as a replacement, aside from 5 fans on mt.org who post that the school should hire Pearl, it's crickets. Pearl to Louisville to replace the pimp would be perfect.

Memphis Madness was cancelled months ago, replaced by the fan appreciation deal:

"MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Tiger basketball fans will not be going to Memphis Madness this year. The typical opening event of the Tigers' basketball season will not happen at all.

Every year, thousands of fans pack FedExForum to see the first official practice, get player autographs, and enjoy special concerts.

"I remember the first one I saw Derrick Rose do an amazing dunk," U of M fan Tyrell Hayslett recalled.

But, that won't be the case in 2015.

Memphis Tigers head basketball coach Josh Pastner said Memphis Madness will be replaced with a fan appreciation day, which will be free for everyone. It will be similar to the fan appreciation event the school hosts for the football team."

Yes, the men's basketball team played there until 1963. The women's team still uses it.

Even if it is "fan appreciation day", which the school still labeled as Memphis Madness, only 500 fans showed up. For Memphis, that is pitiful, and not indicative that there will be over 12,000 there for games.

Yep I would pick a current Memphis coach when I wished to lay low from the NCAA 01-lauramac2

I just could not think of a school better than Memphis with a cleaner record.

I honestly believe Pastner is as clean as possible in today's college basketball environment. I think some Memphis fans find that to be a problem.

For example, it is pretty well known that Skal Labierrea (sp), who was a top recruit last year and signed with Calipari, is dirty. He is from Memphis and his guardian made it very clear that whoever donated the most money to his "charitable organization" would get Skal's serivces. There is plenty of reports about this from Gary Parrish and others.

Meanwhile, a CA reporter doing a story about Josh requested access to his emails through the FOI Act and did a pretty indepth story. One thing that came out was an email from Pastner to his staff, telling them to do not make any promises to Skal's guardian because it is a bad situation. He refused to get in the dirt with Calipari.

He was however, willing to make a deal the Lawson brothers father, Keelon Lawson, (who signed in college with UAB but left because of a dispute with Bartow, before he played a game). Pastner game him a job just so he could sign his sons, but according to the NCAA, that is legal.
