Miami and the Coastal Division
I know everyone is down on Al Golden, and I know Miami most likely loses to FSU this weekend, but if you look at the Coastal Standings, the other 2 Coastal big dogs are down this year (Virginia Tech 0-1; Georgia Tech 0-2).
Miami is very much alive in a very mediocre Coastal Division, and if they don't get discouraged, could end up in the running for the Coastal Division Title and their first ACC Championship game.
Unfortunately, they drew both Clemson and FSU from the Atlantic Division, but I think they have enough talent to at least compete with everyone in the Coastal....
Could it be the year they make it to Charlotte? Jacksonville? Pittsburgh? Where the hell is the ACC Championship???

Back away from the drink. It will be ok.
ACC Championship game is in Charlotte and will be so for the forseable future.
Miami drawing both Clemson and FSU in the same year is a killer.
Tobacco Road is going to start ruling the Coastal now...UNC and Duke.

Yeah right now the Coastal looks like it's UNC. If not for Williams throwing 3 bad picks against South Carolina, UNC would be undefeated and ranked right now.

Whether by accident or design, the schedule this year has all four southern schools playing a full round robin. With Ga Tech already having two losses, they have close to zero chance. The way it was set up, the Coastal was pretty much Va Tech's to lose, and they got a good start on that (losing). But they play BC and NC State as crossovers, so if they win this week, they aren't out of it.
Other than Ga Tech and Virginia, it's too early to count anybody out. As usual.

Miami and GT are the only two schools in the Coastal that can draw both Clemson and FSU the same year with the current set up.
So all other Coastal teams automatically have a slight advantage.

Wait -- y'all are making it sound as if GT is a tough out.
The Coastal is a three-horse race:
Duke
North Carolina
Pitt

Until those 3 lose to someone other than each other, I tend to agree with you.

it's wide open! It's a very mediocre division...
GT has Clemson this weekend....if they lose, they're effectively out
VT has NC State....they can't afford to lose
Miami is very much alive at this point

Not according to this:
Here are the Sagarin conference rankings which may surprise some who look down on the ACC Coastal Division:
1) SEC-West
2) Big 12
3) PAC-12-South
4) ACC-Coastal
5) SEC-East
6) ACC-Atlantic
7) PAC-12-North
8) Big Ten-West
9) I-A Independents
10) Big 10-East

RE: Miami and the Coastal Division
Don't we learn this lesson every single year?
We immediately start projecting everything from the Heisman Trophy race to the national championship race to the various conference championship races.
Then, when our predictions are proven ridiculous - because we made them waaaaay too soon - instead of just acknowledging that we were wrong and probably shouldn't have been wildly speculating before we had any actual evidence to support our guesses, we start to make all kinds of qualifiers to justify our idiocy.
Rinse. Wash. Repeat.
Who's going to win the Coastal? I have no idea and neither does anyone else. If I had to guess I would pick Duke. However, it could also be North Carolina or Miami or Pitt or someone else. That's part of the beauty of the sport – it's complete unpredictability.

Except, we are pretty durn sure neither Virginia or Georgia Tech is winning the Coastal.

I think the Coastal can still get the 4 way 4-4 finish this season

Questions -- still being pretty new to this conference and their rules and tie breakers etc -- do all the conference games count or only the ones in the division? Is it possible someone could win more than someone else, but not get the division because they lost more on that side so to speak? I guess I'm asking is it just the top team with the least losses or the least losses in that division, if that is possibly someone else?

All conference games count the same, unless three or more teams are tied. In that case it could come down to record in division as a tie-breaker.

I feel like "ruling" isn't the correct choice of words.

Miami looked completely devastated after the loss yesterday....
I know FSU is a huge game, but when will Miami realize that beating Duke and Pitt this year is just as important...
They have to pick themselves up off the mat and get ready for VT next week....it's a must win game

I know a lot of people have a hard time buying in to UNC, but I think they are legit this year. The took a decent Illinois team to the shed. If you look at the rest of their schedule it's very possible they can win out. Their offense has always been good when Williams keeps his head straight and their defense is much better this year.

There's no question North Carolina could win out. I also think Duke could win out. Duke looks like a pretty good team to me. Pitt is not as good as those teams and is probably another year or two away from competing for the divisional title.

That Falls 100% on the Coach and the Gameplan.... I just don't trust Al Golden is going to be successful there anymore.
FLossY Out...

I took the whole "UNC and Duke are going to start ruling the Coastal" to be a longer outlook than just this season.
