I like Rudd. He lives in academia but understands the entire picture of what being a university president in the current era is all about.

That's his job as a University President, and he's doing well so far. I do hope he lives in academia because that's what the University needs to improve in more than it does football or athletic programs.
Things are improving academically in terms of prestige (e.g. Fogelman COB being recently ranked as a top 25 place to earn a PhD). But there's still a long way to go. US News ranks the University as "Tier 2 - Rank Not Published" which means it is in the bottom 25% of the 280 National Universities.
The University's academic rankings are somewhat underrated but arguably still fair. We're not delusional to think UoM will be in the top 100 over the next decade, but we should have a focus on academic prestige to crack the top 200. There's no reason why the University can't academically compete with the universities with whom we athletically compete.

Top 200 or 150 should be a public goal. If I'm not mistaken, all the ongoing construction projects (academic) may help a bit. I'm sure the increased # of endowed chairs was a step in the right direction. Also, I believe dollars from the empowering the dream campaign were earmarked to support publication and Dr Rudd just announced the "10%" program geared to recruiting top 10% HS grads.
I would highly envision two future fund raising campaigns next year:
1) General Athletic - should always be raising money towards a new facility. The South Campus plan calls for many, many more buildings.
2) Academic - Bio Tech II, Alumni Hall, and Convocation buildings. These 3 are queued up right behind Music, Bio I which I would imagine breaking ground in Spring.
