SI Article: Can Hawaii Get Its Mana Back?
Part 1
http://www.campusrush.com/hawaii-rainbow...59296.html

A 3 part series about Univ of Hawaii and the players from the islands (including American Samoa). (part 2 and 3 have link if the above article)

The sad state that the Hawaiian legislators don't support the only game in town. Hopefully, they can turn it around, but it seem now that Mariota had great success that UH athletics could be hurt more.
It's scary to wonder if all the players from the islands played at U of Hawai'i how good they could be.

Hawai'i and it's location will always be a blessing and a curse.

Norm Chow, one of the best OC's out there. Head coaching seems to be beyond him though. I can't imagine blaming this on recruiting since I can't imagine going to school in Hawai'i isn't a powerful enough draw.

It seems like Utah is getting a lot more top Polynesian players that would have typically gone to Hawaii. Having that P5 status probably helps.

Seemed Boise had more Polynesians than Hawai'i did last Saturday.

The Mormon religion is big in the Pacific Islands...that helps Utah and Boise.

I wonder if the attraction of HAwaii is less now that so many players come from SoCal, Florida, Texas and Georgia. For those guys, Hawaii's climate is an upgrade, but not the same way it was when you're recruiting players from places where winter is a thing.

Never knew that's Hawaii was paying the travel costs for visiting MWC teams as a caveat for admission to MWC. Would be awesome if they could swing that and jump up to PAC-12.

Unfortunately for Hawaii, the best Polynesian players aren't in Hawaii or on the islands; they're in Southern California, Utah, and increasingly in Texas (3/5 starting O-linemen next year will be from Euless Trinity alone and all are Polynesian).

Their last Heisman hope was Colt Brennan. June could recruit the kids better.

June didn't recruit, kids sent him tapes and that's how he evaluated them
