Yes? No? Depends? One thing is for sure, a win puts the Cats at 4-2 and it would help take the sting out of those two early conference losses. Make no mistake, I would rather have won either of those games than this one (Temple in particular). BYU is a bit of an enigma. They lost their starting QB to injury after their first game and are 3-2 thus far but have played a pretty tough schedule:

@ NEB W 33-28
Boise W 35-24
@ UCLA L 24-23
@ MICH L 31-0
UCONN W 30-13

I have not seen them play yet this year and I will be interested to watch some of their game Saturday night against ECU. I had this game circled as a loss for the Cats before the season began and I don't know that I can change my mind at this point but anything is possible...especially with our Cats. How do you see it?

I've seen them in 2.5 games. The backup QB is just another guy compared to the kid that went down again this year. I'm confident we will do well if we show up with our heads in the right place. UC is the better team. If this was at Nippert the outcome would not be much of a question IMO.

I think the game is winnable. Limit mistakes and turnovers.

Heckuva backdrop for a stadium though.

RE: Mission in Provo: Get a Win
Not sure what to expect. BYU is a solid, well coached team. Hopefully our defense steps up and keeps them from putting up a ton of points. They aren't the most prolific offense out there but our defense has fallen asleep at times. If we don't have a bunch of turnovers that put our D in a bad spot I think we can keep their offense from putting up huge points.

On offense, I think we can move the ball on them. I'd love to be able to get Holton, Moore and Boone back. Boone in particular I think would change the dynamic of our run game. Just hope we come ready to play. It won't be an easy game but we can win if we limit mistakes and play sound on special teams.

RE: Mission in Provo: Get a Win
Now, the critical game in my mind. Almost midway through the season and the AAC is getting no respect nationally--three undefeated teams each with a win against the P5 and none can break the AP Top 25.

So UC needs another signature win and this is the last chance on primetime national TV. A loss in Utah and then running the table in the AAC won't earn an ounce of respect with the P5 obsessed national media.

I believe the UC offense will be too much for BYU to match and the Bearcats prevail in Provo. And that really sets the table for an impressive finish to a season that seemed lost prior to the Miami victory.

RE: Mission in Provo: Get a Win
After re-watching the Miami game, in the 4th quarter, the sideline reporter commented that Brayden Beard was taken to the locker room in tears - any idea what that was about?

I'd imagine Kiel will be ready to go, but on a short leash. Same with Boone, Moore and Hotlon - at least the offense gets back more playmakers. Not sure how I feel about sitting Moore in favor of Gunner - guess it'll come down to practice performance. I sure hope they don't resort to 2 headed QB strategy. Turnovers and defense will be the keys for the rest of the season IMO. I like their chances, BYU is very inconsistent. We'll get a good look at them this week with ECU game.

I hope the team goes to Provo a day or two early to get accustomed to the altitude.

Beard was carted off with an injury during a return. Looked like a knee/leg injury, guessing a pretty nasty one.

Apparently their QB has been sacked 15 times in 5 games and they don't run well. Having not watched them at all, it sounds like they have a weak O-line. Since our front is the strength of the defense, and since we have a better offense than UConn, it seems winnable. I won't predict anything more specific than that though.

RE: Mission in Provo: Get a Win
I watched the UConn v. BYU game. It was close for a good while. Then UConn did UConn things and completely fell apart. I can't say I came away overly impressed with BYU. That said, they got a monster red zone threat. Kid is like 6'7....or smthg.

Top to bottom, I think we're more athletic and explosive. However, they're at home, and they're no chumps. Wouldn't be surprised to see them given the home field -3 advantage.

They are dirty as hell. If Kiel plays, they'll pull a Memphis and try to hurt him.

This is the one game that I pretty much had circled as a loss in the beginning of the year. I would be very impressed if Tubby and the Cats can pull this one off.

The BYU game against ECU is televised on ESPNU beginning at 7:30. BYU favored around 10 points.

UC Might Face BYU's 3rd String Quarterback Beau Hoge On Friday

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86563...ition.html

Will Mangum be able to play Friday (6 p.m. MT, ESPN) when BYU hosts Cincinnati?

"That will be up to the training staff,” he said Saturday night. “I’m not worried about that right now. But we are excited for the challenge. Cincinnati is a good team, a good program. They've got some big wins."

If Mangum can't play, that could mean that Hoge — who is a native of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, which is only 5 miles from Cincinnati — could make his first career start against his hometown team. Mangum made his first start against his hometown team, Boise State, on Sept. 12.
