It simply takes no depth of thought whatsoever to see that Josh isn't the right fit here. None.

At least now we know.

Is it possible to tone down the dripping negativity based on the fact that the teams in last years were still pretty good, if short of elite? Not mocking our own is not some admission that we do not want elite.

You truly would think teams had never won a game. Everyone recognizes we have work to do and that another rough year will and should mean the end for this coach. Unsure why so much assholishness must constantly be used...as though everyone is thinking they are in some new way extra clever.

Yes, we get it...team was just good enough with Joe to keep it going but fall short. Had they completely tanked people would have gotten their wish. Being good, making the tourney, winning some tourney games, winning thirty games, sweeping Louise etc....just enough to keep a job and many cannot stand that.

Live with it. You may get your dream granted this season as tourney less for two seasons in a row will not cut it here.

Or, you will get your nightmare. Team is pretty good...makes the tourney, wins a game...making it tough to get rid of the coach with many having no hope teams can every get better than that.

Man what a dilemma.

Nobody said the bolded section except you. You inserted your own polar projection only because you can't make the polar extremes meet within your own mind.

It is the players primary responsibility to use his talents to make himself best prepared for the next level. The man you love to put down and call "quitter boy" did that very thing. He took responsibility for himself when he realized that Pastner didn't have it. Players with NBA potential for the most part no longer sign with us because they are taking responsibility for themselves by selecting better coaches.

Is that put simply enough for you to understand?

Down goes Frazier

RE: Jaylen Fisher - boom outta here!
Never in the history of the NBA has a college coach made an NBA player out of a normal human being or destroyed a would-be NBA player by poor coaching. Occasionally the hype around a player can get him drafted and maybe even make him rich beyond our dreams (see a few Grizzlies draft selections).

NBA players (nearly all professional athletes these days) are made with amazing genetic attributes, hard work, basketball smarts and crazy confidence. There are no coaches who can turn mere mortals into NBA players, that is why, every year, you see a few NBA players come from schools that are not the "elite" of college basketball. Last year's MVP, Carl Malone, Malik Rose, Scotty Pippin, Damian Lillard, Cameron Payne just to name a few off the top of my head.

Where ever this "you need to play for a coach that can get you to the next level" came from, I don't know. But it is pure BS. The player is the ONLY one who can get himself to the next level. Not coach, not daddy Nichols, not "uncle" Hamilton, only the player can do it for himself. And any player who listens to the hype instead of working their asses off will end up like several "superstars and messiahs" we are familiar with.

A recruit can say he wants to play for Memphis but not for Mr Happy and some fans still can't see the light....

Guess he didn't want to be Joe Jackson'd...

Thank you; however, just as coach can't make anybody into an NBA player a poster cannot make some understand that simple concept.

Bingo and that's his problem. The NCAA is so corrupt the only way to succeed at a high enough level to please the knowledgeable fans here is to have bagmen, corrupt administrators, and hookers. As far as the knowledgeable poster here are concern ethics and morality has no place in college basketball. You can tell that by the coaches they espouse Cal and Bruce Pearl documented cheaters.

How many NBA players did/does Gregg Marshall have? How about Shaka Smart at VCU?

Both FF coaches, both with about 1 and a half NBA players (bench players) at best.

Butler made back-to-back FFs with two NBA players - Hayward and Mack - neither of whom was very highly regarded before they got to Butler.

Florida Gulf Coast made a S16 and I'm pretty sure they had zero NBA players.

As it is, Pastner had Barton (Nuggets) and Black (Lakers) on the same team.

Etc.

Ive been on record for a year now about a couple of things:

1) Not a fan of Fisher's game. Not a huge loss.

2) there was/is a negative trend in recruiting.

I couldnt really care less about losing Fisher to a Mountain West team coach by Josh Pastner 2.0...

But its a bad look. Bc we DID want him, and he chose THAT program.

Yep. It's a tough spot for Pastner to be in.

If he'd already secured a commit from a top 75 G from elsewhere, it would pretty much be a non-issue for the most part. That's if everything is in a vacuum.

But, add Fisher signing with UNLV (assuming it happens) to guys like Chiozza and Payne getting away, and almost losing Martin to LT after pretty much treating him as an afterthought until the final hour, local recruiting seems shaky at best.

Yes, that is exactly all that Pastner has done wrong. The players we've had aren't good enough, or have had other issues. I will be amazed if even Nichols plays a minute in the NBA.

We are in a baaaaaad spot. Recruits look at us and see only two options. One is playing for Pastner and the other is a complete unknown as to who the coach will be if/when Pastner is gone.

How hard is for the residents maroons to comprehend. If the problem was Pastner the Tigers would have never been in final two for kid. He would have eliminated Tigers early.

We would have been in his top 2 if you were the coach here.
