Wrote: Hey guys, I saw there was a thread on the CUSA board about sports betting and was curious if there were any AAC posters interested in keeping a thread going.
As for my week 6 games I have the following:
Miami +10.5 versus Florida State
My leans are:
Tulsa -10 vs ULM
ECU +8 vs BYU
SMU +25 vs Houston
Navy +15 vs Notre Dame
UConn+2 Vs UCF
Florida -4 Vs Missouri
USM @ Marshall -6
Thoughts? Your picks?
What is a lean? Also, is money made on exact scores or range of scores. I have never betried on sports before, but I find the concept interesting .
A lean is a line I like, but haven't locked in because I want to track the movement, watch injury reports, starters, ect. As of right now I have the following bets locked in. Here are my bets thus far:
Tulsa -9.5 vs UL monroe
Uconn +2 vs UCF
Miami +10.5 vs Florida St
Wyoming +25 vs Air Force
Florida - 5 vs Mizzu
Syracuse +3 vs USF
Leans:
ECU +8 vs BYU
SMU +26 vs Houston
NCST pk vs Virginia Tech
ECU vs BYU O55
Navy +14.5 vs Notre Dane
Oregon St Vs -8 Arizona
Thanks, what kind of money can you make on these bets? What does it cost to place them?
You can make any amount you're willing to risk, betting as little as a dollar, as much as several thousand. It's really a great and fun hobby as long as you have self control. Most people recommend you dont bet more than %5 of your bank roll on a game, unless you're absolutely sure. Get other fans opinions too, it always helps you see things from other perspectives.
So far on the college football season I have made $550. My starting bankroll was $400, and is now $950. Most of my bets are $50.
Basically how it works is every game has a spread and juice.
For instance ECU is 8 point underdogs, or +8. That means BYU is 8 point favorites, or -8. For me to bet on ECU +8, the juice is -110. This means I sacrifice 10% of my money to win a given number. For example I would bet $110 to win $100. If you see odds that are +110, I bet $100 to win $110.
You can also bet on the under or over for any game. Example is BYU/ECU is 55 points. That means combined, you can bet whether the total score will be less than that number. You can bet on the winner outright, this is called Moneyline. Huge favorites will cost you huge juice
Example Houston Money lines is -$3500, bet $3500 for houston to win, get $100
SMU is $1750 Moneyline Bet $100 for SMU to win, get $1750)
If you're interested, I highly recommend 5dimes. They come out with lines early, which are always -110. If you wait until game day, they have reduced lines that are -105 juice.
Other sports, such as baseball, have much more interesting lines. For example, lines are basically never -110. Take the cubbies game tomorrow. The Cubs are -138, meaning you bet $138 for $100, but the Pirates are +128, meaning bet $100 to win $128.
The reason you pay juice is so regardless of who wins, the bookies make cash. For me, it makes games I don't care about really fun. I find any game interesting, even if it is just to gather intel on the team!
Hope I was clear, feel free to ask any questions
