I hope you, at the very least, posted this out of concern. It almost sounds like someone pissed you off.

Barkers. suggestion - either delete your post or at least Edit your post and delete the names.

You literally posted that tom v smoked cigarettes outside his dorm, and thought that was worthy of judging him publicly, and judging a program on. You could have easily made your concerns clear as an insider without these ridiculous details. Barkers should really be working on a campaign for the upcoming elections, I heard tom v didn't inhale

And of course you like your faculty and student community seeing athletes chain smoking and drinking beers on steps of Wilson while classes are going on(no kidding a professor literally witnessed this).

These are known things, I mean come on, you think this drums up support for COA and extra from the faculty and staff?

I don't care if anyone drinks or smokes cigs or whatever it's your body and lifestyle not mine, but when it leads to other things that end up being a malee that puts you in hospital and teammates mugshot on ESPN, it's a problem.

Remember the dumb party before NCAA tournament, literally 50% + times Jmu basketball has shown up in national media it's been a negative. Open your eyes.

if you read the posts here, most of the folks are concerned about our basketball program, they are also concerned with the privacy of individuals, which you are not. I believe you can easily make your point without all of the details. You can take the advice from the tone of the posters, or you can go down with the ship defending yourself.

If one person has a formula to stop another person's alcoholism, then that person can become the most powerful person on this planet.

Oh if was that simple.

The faculty senate speaker doesn't even know what the COA is and then claimed he had no context when he was sent a letter signed by president Alger. Are you kidding me? Smoking a cigarette outside Wilson hall pales in comparison to this kind of incompetence. The guy couldn't even put COA into a google search. You kidding me?

RE: Men's basketball program control.
Aside from the privacy issue I don't agree with the premise of Barkers point- that Brady and JMU lack Institutional control. I'm not sure who the peer 5 schools you checked in on are but I could provide you with countless examples of how things like the Nation story go on across the country. Delaware dismissed Jarvis Threatt for off court reasons. Look no further than the school that Cooke transferred to (Dayton)- they dismissed players last year and just suspended a player this year. What I see in other places is actually a lot worse than the alcohol, occasional pot use, and smoking cigarettes (seriously ?) that in your opinion have plagued Matt Brady's program. Physical assault, robbery, sexual assault, etc., hiring escorts/prostitutes for players, taking tests for players, etc. I think Brady runs a pretty good program. We all will agree that he just needs to win more and do it this year.

These are college students- some are going to drink and some will abuse alcohol. I don't think it's Brady's job to police that. If Brady was perpetually bringing in bad kids with problems then he would need to be accountable. IMO when the drinking starts to affect the player's grades, performance on the court, or leads to an incident off the court that's when it's the coaches job to get involved and I think he did that with Nation. I think even Nation would tell you he had plenty of chances and plenty of communication about what he needed to do. He needed to ultimately be accountable and nobody (whether it's Lou Rowe, his family or whoever) could do that for him. I'll cut you some slack if you wer e struck by the news that Nation is in Harrisonburg working at a restaurant- it is a sad end to the story. It's like they said in Bronx Tale - there's nothing worse than wasted talent.

It's odd timing for your post though- the team turned the page on Nation last year and things look promising this season. I don't think it's fair to the team or the players who you mentioned who graduated to bring this up and honestly I don't even think it's that salicious- to my point earlier- some players like other college students are going to drink and do drugs- for some it will click at some point and they will focus on being the best athlete they can, for some they won't make it- I honestly don't think Matt Brady or Mickey Matthews or Everett Withers should be to blame for that.

RE: Men's basketball program control.
I do have mixed feelings on this and hope for the best for Nation. However, He was given way too many chances and screwed up. After being dismissed from program it is not on Brady or anyone else from JMU to see that he succeeds. If he returned to florida or went somewhere else, it would be different. But the fact he stayed in Harrisonburg gives us notice of his downfall. I feel sorry for him and hopes he turns it around, but it is not on Jmu or Brady in my opinion.

Barkers claims to be such a caring person, but he somewhat anonymously calls out the issues (he claims) of a lot of student athletes by name on a public forum. This sounds more like a pissed off person, than a caring person to me. Did you recently get fired or demoted? I was one that used to respect you - until today. You've had time to rethink and change your post, but you obviously don't care about student athletes.

As many of you can tell by my posts I am an avid JMU MBB fan and I consume as much information on JMU MBB as there is out there. In the past I felt like Brady and the JMU MBB players weren't as confident going into a season as they seem this year. They have never really shot for the stars IMO. This year seems different. In addition to the DNR story there is a video on Madizone where Curry and Grays both say that anything short of a CAA title will be a bad season and that they expect to get to the NCAA tournament and make a run. Who knows if that happens but I like the attitude- visualization can be a powerful thing in young men and again in years past from the top down I was always a little disappointed with how low they set the bar.

I was going to ask Barkers what his impressions of practice were but then I remembered that he said Joey McLean was slow last year. From the tip vs UVA it was apparent that Joey McLean was anything but slow and that he was a ball player. No one is perfect in their assessments but I think too many take what barkers says on these boards as gospel. The same way he misread Joey McLean on the court he could be misreading the state of the program, and what goes on off the court with certain players. He could be anything from a former player/coach to someone in the athletic dept, to the Duke Dog to a custodian at the Convo. I'm not saying this to out Barkers the way he outed players just to say that we put him on a pedestal because he called a couple of the transfers out of the program but I wouldn't let him impact what you see with your own eyes. I see progress and some old news isn't going to impact how successful I think the Dukes will be this year.

Think all my posts have pointed to Jmu basketball having a good to great season. I even started posting last year of how special this season could be.

McLean was dealing with a nagging injury during preseason that showed up again during the season so that could have been reason for his slow step during preseason.

Lastly it's pointless to remove and edit posts in my opinion, I wrote it, gave my reason for writing it, and gave my opinion to why that information was already out there.I admitted to the state I was in during the post and probably would have posted differently looking back at it, but I stand by what I say even when masses don't agree with it. It's my opinion, and if you knew of the countless times issues were brought up to coaches in basketball and initially ignored over past few years you would see where I am coming from.
