Worried
I'm beginning to think that the coaches are not the main problem. Yes they may have made questionable calls in the last three games but they are not out there playing. The offense looks confused and I'm pretty sure the offensive coaches don't teach then to look confused on every play. Not to put blame on Just the players our coaches need to stop running jet sweeps and hare running is not pretty. Let's get creative and get the ball in our skill players hands. Our play calling is so predictive and can't continue. Changes need to be made or else let's just call it a season.

Yes, our play calling is predictable and opposing coaches know how to prepare for it. The jet sweeps and bubble screens ain't fooling 'em. Time to try something else - like maybe some dink and doink passes up the middle for 5 - 10 quick yards.

Overall I think coaching has been a major problem, but yesterday I don't even know where to start to place most of the blame. You literally had a QB that could not throw a football.

RE: Worried
When you look at our offense you don't think "what a well-coached group." The lack rhythm, tempo, and confidence. That is due to a lack of identity, something I was concerned with after week 1. The coaches want it to be Bougie but he's not going to win a game for us. He wouldn't have beaten UNLV or Murray. Our coaches have to get the ball to G-day, Turner, Beebee, and TLL in space with a chance to run after catch. It has to be high percentage and quick because we do not have a dominant line.

RE: Worried
Hmmm
I haven't jumped on the coaches-- nor the players. I have been thinking. Not too much though, admittedly. I think the coaches have actually done a great job in some games in developing a game plan that has kept us in the game against better opponents (i.e. Ohio State). Then there are games where they have totally missed the mark, ie. Arkansas last year.

And I believe some turnovers can be blamed on coaching e.g., calling a play that you know your QB can't execute-- e.g. years back having Horvath throw passes in the flat inviting a pick six, and getting what you asked for.

With that, what I have to say is 1) our coaches have had good days and bad days, and 2) they seem to fail to appreciate the importance of looking for mismatches and exploiting mismatches. For example, is TLL a mismatched when you call a pass play that is basically throw it up for grabs and let him go get it? It appears we run player grouping in and run play calls in independent of one another. We have some big wide receivers who should have some plays designed for them TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR SIZE ADVANTAGE when it exists. We should minimize or eliminate plays that require the QB to put the ball in the belly of a RB and pull it our twice on the same play on a day when that QB can't hold on to the ball. Hare is not fumble prone. Something was going on. Whatever the reason-- figure it out and fix it (if it's an equipment problem or something (gloves?)) or fix your play calling to try to minimize the risk. You can't just ignore it and pretend it's not a problem.

So, I can't absolve the players on this one. And can't solely blame the players either. So, not making bold statements based on just one or two games, but looking at a trend over a period of time, I think we need to look at, and look for, and take advantage of mismatches much more than we appear to at the present.

Also, --- look at how Kill rotated players-- especially linemen. I don't see us doing it that much anymore. As difficult as it may have been to get used to it, I do think it worked in terms of keeping guys fresh, I am sure keeping player morale up to some extent, and in continuity year to year and in case of injury.
