Game Week: Akron
@ home and homecoming.

Curious if Bell will be ready for some MACtion?

I'm guessing Akron will be a one TD favorite.

RE: Game Week: Akron
I may be in the minority here, but if this team wants to use this season as a stepping stone to building a contender in 2016 and 2017 I truly believe that Roback must stay the starting quarterback when Bell returns. Neither one of these guys is a complete quarterback yet. Bell is injury prone, lacks pocket presence, his footballs tend to float a little and his footwork is non-existent. However, he is a great athlete and his ability to make something out of nothing is a huge incentive. That being said; Roback has shown flashes, his arm strength is top notch, his understanding of the offense, ability to read defenses, and move on to second and third reads is better than Bell's. Roback is a good athlete, can scramble when necessary but he isn't Bell. Roback throws off his back foot way to often, and into coverage at the worst possible times. But, and this is a huge unknown, if the coaches finally decide to stay with Roback, can you imagine where we will be next year with all of these guys returning. Vann, Tuttle, Browing, Daughtery, Bantham. The defense will have POC back, Maclean looks like he might be good on the other defensive end along with Harris. Figueroa and Brown should continue to improve at nose tackle, our secondary held their own last night. I think the rest of this season is going to be rough and hopefully we eek out a couple more wins, but I'm optimistic that next year will be the year we see a winning record. But we can't have the quarterback merry-go-round. Bell will never make it through a Division 1 football season as a starting quarterback. Like I said, just my opinion but if we are laying a foundation for the future we need to have a quarterback that will lead this team, and while neither guy is perfect I believe Roback has the greater up-side.

I agree. Roback is the best all around QB and has the best arm.

Yes I made the same observation and was told the comment was lame, this is really is only weak spot, sometimes he tries to make things happen rather than taking the sack or throwing it away. We saw a couple of these last night against LSU.

In all fairness Bell's strength is that he makes the entire running game better and is a threat to take it to the house when he touches the ball.

Roback's strength definitely is in the passing game.

Interesting many defensive players didn't play at all at LSU so I'm going to ask what their status is:

Ibe, Calderon, Harris, Dunlap and Powell

Dear emu79,
Besides being hurt, and this is just a guess on my part, maybe the guys who were playing, had a better practice week? In any case, we all seem to agree that the run defense played much better than they did against Army.

Ken, but to not to play even ONE down especially on the DL rotation?

Maybe these guys are suspended for that off the field activity that CC alluded to during Army the post game press conference?

I thought I read that Harris was injured, does anyone else recall what happened to him?

Doesn't look like Akron's rushing attack is that hot, got most of their yards against Ohio U via the air, maybe a change in our gameplan this week, although I do like the stacking the box against the run idea.

Ibe and Harris hurt, not sure about others. Harris 4-6 weeks with hand injury.

Didn't miss Ibe one bit. For all the hype, and being a senior, I'd let his replacements continue to play strictly based on performance, and the reps to build for the future.

Thanks for being a trooper for 4 years, but Creighton needs to ignore seniority and build for the future.

36, Adams was a maniac out there. Brown looking better and better, just needs to get that club off his hand.

Yes Adams has excelled on special teams for quite some time. And Ibe would be three years since he transferred here out of Div III college.

RE: Game Week: Akron
On Saturday Akron lost a tight-one to an improved Ohio team. As someone mentioned earlier, Akron hasn't really had a consistent rushing threat thus far this season. They have some stand-out defenders though. Jatavis Brown is a legit linebacker.

If Jackson and Vann do their thing, and Roback has a respectable game, we've got a decent shot at this one. Not making their RB look like Jamaal Charles would also help.

And Dawson despite his size made some big plays.

Agreed. Roback just has to be a game manager and eliminate the turnovers. He is not the guy that is going to win games for us, but he can certainly lose them with mental mistakes.

It's a simple formula or EMU. Run first to set up the screens and TE's, take a few shots down the field to Daugherty to keep them honest, eliminate turnovers and win special teams.

The D is what it is. Load the box and/or run some corner blitzes to stop the run first, no blown assignments from the DB's, and let the young guys gain experience and develop.

Definitely a winnable game. Ball State all over again. Let's get it right this time.

Here's an updated injury list. Ibe will likely play Saturday. Harris out 4 more weeks, however. About 2 weeks out from Reggie's return.

Hopefully Reggie and the coaches are using his downtime to work on a few offensive wrinkles. Roback has played well and it's hard to imagine Reggie replacing him full-time. Get them both on the field at the same time.

Amen. Make opponents plan for both a Roback and a Bell offense.

Do we have a triple option QB on the roster? Lol.

Reggie adds a whole different dimension to the game, but Roback is a MUCH better passer.

The thought of Reggie catching screens out wide or taking direct snaps with Roback still in the pocket is so thrilling.
