3) stAte once Fredi returns.

Failed the OOC test, but should do well in conference:
5) Troy
5) ULL
5) ULM
5) Tx. St.

These teams feel incomplete.
9) Idaho
9) Georgia St.
9) NMSU

No problem with your rankings, or any ones rankings for that matter, but maybe can enlighten everyone about the logic you followed to come up with up with 'once Fredi returns' in your ranking of A-State, and where do you have them without Fredie?

I ask because everything I have seen ( including this site) has then either #3 or #4 and he only play in 1 1/2 of their 5 games thus far. Appears to me they made it to that level mostly without him.

I look for them to go up or down.

Considering the fact that stAte would have been a favorite in the Idaho game with or without him and the fact that most of their OOC games were total mismatches in way way or the other, I'm thinking that his assessment of stAte is mostly just looking forward at what is to come. Their current record/stats wouldn't be much different even if he had been in, but the same can't be said for the rest of the games on the schedule.

They were favored by 20+ over Idaho without him.

The Mizzou game was not a mismatch by any standard, the betting line i think had Mizzou by 6 or 7, so it was not expected to be.

I think Toledo was favored by around seven at their place, so that was not suppose to be a mismatch, and had Knighten been available probably would not have been.

IMO only USC meets your 'total mismatch' description.

Again I'm not as good as you guys at this but I do know for a fact that A-State is currently ranked at # 3 (by most) or #4 in the SBC, based on their performance this far without the services of their returning All-SBC QB for 3 1/2 of their 5 games. A player their OC said this week is the best player in the SBC, and many others predicted would be a strong candidate for POY.

I would not be surprised if most people would not predict that some improvement should be expected with his return.

What does that mean going forward?

I don't know but do know that the people that do try and give us a look ahead don't have the two teams ahead of them that much better in any ratings I have seen (Sagarin has GaSo at 69.54, AppSt at 67.50 compared to their 62.91). They certainly don't have to improve much to match-up with those two, and everyone else is ranked below them.Nobody they play are even close to USC(91.82), Mizzou(76.43) or Toledo(78.8), and only one is rated higher than them at this time(but not by much) so I think A-State fans should be optimistic.

I think most people who watched the game think would have beaten Mizzou and been at least 3-2 with Knighten, and that includes people rooting for Mizzou.

As for me I think they have a shot at meeting the 8 win +/- 1 prediction I have penciled in, if they get decent production from their qb.

Missouri isn't a good team. I've watched them the past 3 weeks. They have nothing on offense. South Carolina is even worse.

They are not a good team offensively, but that defense will win them games.

I really have no problem with what you are saying at all.

Pretty much everyone that watched them play A-State, said A-State should have beaten them, and almost certainly would have by a couple of scores if they had not lost their QB.

Other than that all I can reference to is the various sites that do rankings, and ratings, and they still have them being much better than any SBC team. Same for USC, and Toledo.

I look forward to A-State getting their 'star' qb back, so we can get a better feel for how good, or bad, they really are. At this point the consensus is they are #3 in the SBC mostly without him, and the expectations by most people are that they will be better with him.

I got the feeling from listening to the A-State coaches this week that they expect to be a lot better on offense with him back, plus having the ability to have a strong running game against sbc caliber DL's. Not that their OL ( or any position other than qb) appeared over matched against those three, just their coaches said they get much better match-ups across the board starting with Idaho.

RE: Week 5 Power Rankings
While the logic some posters use to arrive at their rankings goes way over my head, the rankings themselves appear to be pretty good, so time to go fishing, and as usual I look forward to reading what is posted here from time to time.

Good luck to 'your' team the rest of the year.

With Breida, Ellison, Fields, a rapidly improving OL and a stout D, GS is a lock at #1. We will run roughshod on the App D after seeing all the yards Wyoming ran for.

I've got all the faith in the world in the Eagles this season, but I don't anticipate us doing anything easily in Boone.

That place was hard enough to win at on Saturday afternoons before they hit their stride and only filled up 3/4 of the stadium. I'm expecting nothing short of an angry hornet's nest for a televised night game with control of the SBC on the line.

I can't call the outcome of the App/GS game yet, but I would wager that atmosphere will be the best of any SBC home game this year.

We've all played some body bag games, some fcs games, and some g5 games (some in conference, some not). Shouldn't the standings pretty much suffice as "power rankings"?

Well, then you'd have Georgia State ahead of App.

Yes, in December.
