Terrible attendance. How can we not advertise this game at all to the local area? And they only advertised it on social media the day of the game. No wonder nobody showed up!

Were you at the game?

Do you watch any other games? Most are sparse like the convo on opening weekend.

What's the constant fascination with attendance? It reaks of ***** envy.

Those frosh are bad arse.... wow. This will be a fun year.

I agree with all comments above. The freshman..good grief I cannot get over how poised and athletic they are. Monty has the championship talent core to build off of. If this core stays together...NIU will have a MAC championship sooner rather than later. I see three obstacles for this team this year. 1) Maric and Zelis...boy I hope tonight was not a true indicator. 2) the youth will take time to buy into a solid defensive unit. Going to get gashed in some games this year. 3) can this team remain cohesive in terms of egos remaining in check. I know if I was a junior or senior and some freshman came in and lit it up I might feel a bit threatened. Something tells me the guys on this team won't let that happen. What an overall encouraging game. Kind of going back to 7's point about being excited for the next game..it certainly does have that new Christmas gift feel where You can't wait to get up the next morning to play with your new toy. New era of huskie bball started tonight and it sure feels good

RE: NIU/Cal State predictions
Went to the game last night and those kids can really play. You can tell the chemistry isn't there quite yet - due to a good chunk of minutes going to freshman. But, once the chemistry clicks this group is going to do some special things. Being a former basketball player myself, I usually don't say things like that, because I know a lot of things can happen throughout the season that have the potential to derail the teams performance. But, with that being said, I have confidence in Monty in keeping the kids heads on straight and hungry to strive to win a championship, because, quite frankly, Monty is accustom to winning and he instills that in the kids. I have to admit, this is going to be a really special group. How many times do you see a Mid-major playing five freshman? I haven't seen it too many times - aside from Kentucky obviously. The best players on the floor last night were freshman. Marshawn Wilson's athleticism is unbelievable, for those who don't believe in recruiting rankings, he gives you a reason to believe, the kid is real special. Key and Bradley hold their own in the post already, and both will still probably add 20lbs of muscle in the next couple years, once that happens, watch out. Porter had the most minutes of the freshman last night, and I see why, he makes things happen, plays like he should be a senior, very comfortable. The most impressive of the bunch, however, was Pauga. I have never seen a freshman that calm and confident. He shot at will and just didn't miss. His shooting is going to be key in keeping this offense effective. My only negative take from last night was Maric and Zellis. Either of those two don't belong out there. Too slow and are ineffective on the offensive end. Besides that, I couldn't be more excited to watch this group grow and develop and hopefully do some big things in the MAC.

Jesus, they just scored 46 points in the first half of the season with freshman scoring 32 and you found a way to complain?

LOL. Was not a complaint. Was an observation, and an honest question for people with more knowledge about our offense.

Positive comments are a better read. I am struggling with it too.
How about this.... We have great 3 pt shooting and when the inside game gets going, we're going to be awesome!

OK, can someone put some context around this weekend? Should we go 3-0 easily? Are CSUN, Wright State and South Dakota at all decent? Where are they predicted to finish in their conference? What did they do last year? RPI?

This is where they finished last year...

NIU - 188
South Dakota - 212
Wright State - 266
CSUN - 286
Brad- here is last year's RPI. I think we'll be favored in every game.

RE: NIU/Cal State prediction
NIU is such a different team then they were last year that you really can't make a comparison. Last night NIU made 11-3pters they did not do that once last year. They shot 44%fg, 46%3pters and 70%ft and only had 12 tournovers, pretty good night shooting. The bad part of the game was Marin, Chuks and Armstead they were a combined 1-16fg and 8-16ft. They all are much better than that.

RE: NIU/Cal State predictions
Jaylen Key was 6-7fg, 3-4ft and 5rbs and 15pts. Marshawn Wilson scored 16pts in 16mins. Key, Wilson and Pauga all scored at least 15pts. Dontel Highsmith did not score that many as a freshman until his 10th game. If, Bowie can't play then Key needs to start not Chuks and Marshawn Wilson needs to start not Orris. The freshman and team overall was not good on defense but they weren't horrible. If they can improve it should be a fun year.

I thought they were supposed to be replacing those video screens that are on the walls inside the arena. They still looked like the old ones.

Next years team will have Nick Wagner and Eugene Germann on it. Wagner is a shorter Austin Pauga. He is a great shooter and Germann is a scoring machine at point guard.

NIU/Cal State predictions
It's hard not to overreact positively to what we saw last night.

Just need some size (talented size) inside. Most of Cal's points last night were in the paint.

Maric will play much better, he is a decent player who missed some easy baskets. NIU's interior defense and rebounding need work.

RE: NIU/Cal State predictions
Considering the size advantage our two bigs had against that team they should have played better.

Also, is today's game not on ESPN3? I don't see it listed. I suppose there is no way to watch the game then.

RE: NIU/Cal State predictions
The bigs did look awful, but hopefully hopefully hopefully they just had off games. But I am not counting my chickens. Would like to avoid constantly playing a small lineup. Key seems to be a good post player, but I would much rather see him in at his natural forward spot.

Pauga, wow! Four of his five treys were absolutely nothing but net. Having a 3-point specialist who is 6-6 definitely is a plus.

Other than the band, I didn't see any students. They need to come out, since we could be in on some fun this season.
