RE: EVERYONE has to go!
Yeah, no matter what happens this year Carey is not getting fired. I'm not saying he is a great coach, but MAC coaches do not get fired when they have a bad year after back to back 11 win seasons. The last two weeks have been extremely poor, but they do not immediately undo the last few years. If this season continues to go down the tubes and that trend continues next year then maybe Rod will have something to worry about.

Really, if you haven't been watching the games as closely as we have been you wouldn't notice a huge difference from last year. Last year NIU destroyed PC (pretty similar to Murray St when you consider Murray St is way better than PC). A more convincing home win vs UNLV than the road win last year. Last year a lopsided loss to Arkansas vs a close loss to a #1 Ohio St this year. A disappointing loss to CMU both years. The real difference is last year NIU had a convincing win at Northwestern (which really seemed kind of like a home game) instead of close loss to Boston College.

So, if NIU does what they have the last several years and goes on a run through the MAC (seems unlikely after today's game, but you could have said the same thing last year after Rawls ran all over NIU like Jim Brown) then all will be forgotten and we will be here b!tching about Carey next year when NIU loses a game we all thought they should have won.

I completely agree. Unfortunately.
Hopefully we get hot the rest of the year and some other school falls for him.

Carey won't be fired but will he let any of assistants go if this continues?

RE: EVERYONE has to go!
Carey has reached his peak as a head coach. He's not going anywhere, much too conservative, unfortunately this will turn out to be a down season for NIU.....but we will go to a bowl game

Too conservative? Didn't he go for it on 4th and Goal in the 2nd Qtr. Later in the 3rd he went for it on 4th and 3.

Have you looked at NC State's offense. Not much better than NIUs. If a change were to be made, NIU will aim higher than Canada.

NC State's total offense is #27 with 1914 yards versus NIU is # 77 with 1531 yards.

No, this coaching staff is over its head. Only reason Carey got the job is because Dave Doeren decided to bolt before even coaching us in the Orange Bowl.

They really should have had Carey be interim coach and done a coaching search. Nothing in his resume showed that he was ready for a big time job.

I'm just afraid of how far we have to fall before our AD decides to pull the plug. The scary thought is that this program falls because we don't have money to fire them.

It's no scarier than any point for any other mid-major football or basketball school. Get over it. Take a nap.

Correct. And again, how different is this than last year when NIU lost to CMU at home? Ohio State and BC appear to be tougher OOC games than Arkansas and Northwestern. All in all, pretty much the same place as last year at this time. I should take a look at the posts last year after the CMU game. My guess, is they are pretty much the same as today.

RE: EVERYONE has to go!
That ultimately will be STF's deciding moment.
He's clearly using NIU as a stepping stone, pretty brazen about it actually......but it's tough to step up if the (good) football program you oversee crumbles because you take the cheap/lazy way out at HC during the most critical time in the program's history. That's what he did prior to the Orange Bowl.
I hope that NIU pulls through this in the long term, I really do, but it looks bad right now......but the stadium drawings look great!! YAY

I agree that Carey will not get fired.
He might still get hired by another FSB school.
For $400 000/year who can NIU hire?
PJ makes $800 000. NIU cannot match that.

NIU coach pay is within the bottom 10 of the FSB.
NIU coach pay is within the bottom 5 of the MAC.
Beggars cannot be choosers.

Carey's contract is guaranteed. Frazier was not here prior to the Orange Bowl. He did not take the cheap/lazy way out! The team has won 11 games the last 5yrs what do you people want? It's hard to do that only Oregon has done that. You are not entitled to a great season every year. Even if NIU had the money, Carey would not deserve to be fired after one or two 6-7 win seasons in a row. It's special and un-heard of what the Huskies have done the last 5 years!

So we're supposed to suffer through some down years because you can't always win? This is mostly the same team from last season. The offense and special teams should not be this bad. That is on the coaches.

RE: EVERYONE has to go!
First, a bad season would be not making a Bowl game. Suffer, that word and NIU football don't even belong together. They will have plenty of chances to get better. The coaches, players and Frazier want and expect to win every game. They will work hard to correct things. We need a big crowd for Saturday's game. If people care as much as they seem to, we all will do everything we can to make that happen.
